This is a beautiful campgrounds in Julian. It is a nice area to hike and enjoy lovely views, and have a bonfire for s'mores. The hikes can be very strenuous, but the views are worthwhile. You can even hike to the state park from this area. The town of Julian is a few miles up the road, but you would... More

This county campground a wonderful surprise...and so close to home. We brought our RV up for a couple of nights to check it out and it is a gem. The campground itself is quite pretty, even if some of the campsites are a bit close together. We noticed that some of the table/firepit areas are a little exposed in the... More

Camping in May was great! Not too cold at night and not to hot during the daytime. We camped with a very large group, which it was great. We stayed at a group site #1, so no neighbors to complain about. The tents where a bit on an incline but with enough shade for everyone. Just three big tables. So,... More

Nice, out of the way park, with enough trees for shade and not a lot of people mid-week. Easily found a spot to lay down a blanket and picnic. Enjoyed peace and quiet, only sounds were nature. Hike was fine with lots of wildflowers this time of year - which was the purpose of the visit. Their cabins, which you... More

We have camped at several San Diego County Parks, all very nice, but this has to be the best. The park offers various camping options; tent, RV, or cabins. We chose non electric RV sites which were very nice and offered relative privacy (site 45 may be the best if you are not camping with anyone else). The hookup sites... More

William Heise County Park is one of our families favorite places to camp locally. It is clean, peaceful, and safe. Tucked away on the mountain side you are pulled away from the town. It is beautiful ! Lots of trees, and wildlife to observe. It is a great little getaway for anyone local, or for anyone looking for a cozy... More

We did our first camping trip here as a family with a one-year old and three-year old. We stayed for one night in October 2015. I was sad to see the big tree was no more but a big stump which the kids loved to play and climb on. In the morning it was too cold for the little ones... More

We tent camped mid-week in October at site #54, and also rented cabin #5 around Christmas. I love the location of this place. The pines, mountain views, and wildlife are so rejuvenating. I do not think, however, that I would have felt the same way if the park hadn't been so vacant. I can imagine a very different experience if... More

Awesome site. If you can't make it to Dos Picos, this is the next best campground. Kind of a drive, but well worth it.
