About
The history of the lighthouse began over 500 years ago when a landmark was needed by the Hanseatic League in the first place, as their merchants were complaining about ships disappearing in the Baltic Sea. The highest hill (68 m) of Hiiumaa, the Tornimagi, became the location of the lighthouse. In 1531 a massive stone tower was erected.Interesting to know:• Kopu is the third oldest constantly active lighthouse worldwide• In 1660 iron stairs were constructed on the outer wall of the tower.• In 1810 a staircase was built inside the tower

Highest lighthouse in Hiiumaa from the sea level, although Tahkuna is higher fro the ground level. Extremely interesting history and well displayed information about nordic lighthouses. A bit crowded, but still ok, definitely worth a visit while you're in Hiiumaa.

It's extraordinary place and viewpoint. The view is more that 100m from sea level and the view takes you to the whole area. Lovely cafe next to the Lighthouse. Definitely worth visiting and important landmark on the island Hiiumaa.

You have seen the rest, now see the best. An astonishingly over engineered and massive structure. The lighthouse has been in use for centuries and has been improved and strengthened over time. The entrance is very narrow and a little scary for those who are unsteady and the first stairs rise in a straight line at a steep angle to what seems to be a raised up entry lobby in which there is a good display about Baltic lighthouses. You then climb the square structure to the top and get a good but windy view of the island. The lighthouse covers a large arc across the island and, because of its range, it's a long way from the sea.
It sits in a small park with a shop and café. Try the cloudberry ice cream (to die for) and the kids can play in the park while you sit in the sun.

The 3rd oldest light house in the world still in operation. If interested in lighthouses this is a must when in the region.

It's one of the oldest lighthouses in the world, having been in continuous use since its completion in 1531. It's not hard to go to the top. But a view is amazing!

The oldest (functioning) lighthouse on the Baltic sea is definetely worth a visit. In addition to great views from the top over much of Hiiumaa island and surrounding sea it offers an interrdting exchibition covering the history of the Kõpu lighthouse and introducing lighthouses around the Baltic.

Stairs are pretty high, could be a bit problematic for older people but therefore there are not too many steps of those high stairs. For a 9-year old no problem. Wide platform on top to enjoy the views. Long history, 3rd oldest lighthouse in the world.

Kopu lighthouse was competed in 1531 and is one of the oldest in the world. It is easy to understand why the location was selected hundreds of years ago. Great views.
