Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Be certain to visit the town of Groveland and beyond. Make a donation to the firefighters of Groveland and pay a tribute to those who died while trying to save their forest from fire.

Depending on your travels in and around Yosemite National Park, you can't help but drive through Stanislaus National Park. Evergreen Road is the way to get into Hetch Hetchy driving through the forest. We drove this slowly and stopped for pictures along the way. It is interesting to see the cattle, and horses. Any of these forest drives, whether in Yosemite or Stanislaus should have ingrained the magnitude of damage a forest fire can do. We all need to help maintain this country's beauty for all generations.

The many hikes and places here are a wonderful alternative for the always overcrowded Yosemite National Park

There is a great little lake in Pinecrest with a beach area for swimming and motor boats/ paddle boats/ pontoon boats to rent. The lake is small but clean. The fisherman out on the lake said it’s good for trout fishing. There is a general store in Pinecrest with food and general camping supplies. The food is pricy (as you would expect given how remote you are).

If you are up for a drive you can take the windy mountain road up 10,000 feet to the top for some great views.

You can certainly see the devastation from the Rim Fire. The drive on the main road (CA 120) and the side roads are very beautiful. Be cautious of wildlife. Be wary of goofballs coming into and out of the park who pass in the curves and double yellow lines. Slow down and take your time and enjoy the scenery. It's well worth it. The hikes through the wilderness should not be missed.

The area is scared by the huge forest fire, so you will have to use a bit of your imagination on how pretty it used to be before the mis-management of the forest.

I have been visiting this area since the mid 1960's. The Cottonwood road from Tuolumne all the way into Hetch Hetchy Reservoir is a great day trip. This road wasn't there when I was younger. Lots to see. The scenery and rebirth of the various fire areas are great. Be sure to stop at Cherry Lake.
