I live in Escondido, and I am sad every time I drive down Grand Avenue. LOTS of vacant storefronts. A few dive bars scattered in there, and a fair number of little restaurants, which run the gamut from inexpensive (Rosie's Cafe, a couple of pizza places) to very pricey (Vincent's) and everything in between. Some of the restaurants are pretty... More

My wife and I were waiting for a lunch spot to open and took a walk for a couple blocks in each direction. There are a good number of shops on the street and a good variety of restaurants available. I understand there are car shows and such on certain nights of the week. Probably a lot more to do... More

You might notice from other posts, we did a wine tasting road trip. All of wineries along the road, and there are many, are very good, all different, very busy. The tasting can be very expensive at all of the locations. But yes would do it again, just wish they had a very nice or any restaurant along the route.

Like many town, as malls and bigbox stores have grown, people have lost sight of the great downtown shops, restaurants and events that go on. Grand is a perfect example of this, there are many great shops and great restaurants along Grand and in the summer the activity increases with "Cruisin' Grand" where you can see great classic cars that... Grand Ave has really started to shine. There is weekly farmers market, fine restaurants, Drapers and Damons (my personal favorite place to shop), and many small shops. During the summer the old cars come out and line the street on the weekend. Right off Grand Ave is the theater.

It has a '50s vibe, but primarily just because the buildings seem to fit that era. There really isn't a great flow or feeling from one store front to the other. A few restaurants, a few coffee shops, and not much else. Ice cream on one of the side streets was good, though! Anyway, hard to see this as a... More

Grand Ave is changing for the better and is now quite popular for its bakery/deli, wine cafe, and car show on Friday afternoons in the summer. There are still some junk shops, but there's also a couple of art galleries, an outdoor equipment/clothing store, a beauty salon (a nice one), and a guitar shop (with lessons). Plus farmer's markets weekly,
