This is one of the best places to take your dog, and at the same time enjoy some time at a beautiful beach. In the summertime you need to keep the dogs on a leash, but after Labor Day and before Memorial Day it is leash free! There is nothing like seeing all these beautiful doggies playing in the waves,... Great place to take your dog for a run on the beach and swim. People who visit and locals are very nice and respectful with each others dogs. Nice clean beach.

This is a great beach to let your dog run and play! We went to Carlsbad and were told by snobby locals to get off the beach with our dog there. Del Mar is much more dog friendly!

Since I lived up on the bluff just north of Dog Beach, I walked south to the San Dieguito River outlet and then turned around and headed north up to the expansive beach in Solana Beach and north to Encinitas...what exhilaration!!! And in my younger days, I used to run that entire beach a couple of times a week!! Love... More

If you're a dog lover, you'll love strolling on dog beach where dogs can frolic to their hearts delight off-leash. There a couple of restaurants here as well (but not sure what their dog policies are).

We enjoyed our walk on dog beach even though we really missed our dogs in the process. Seeing the joy on the dogs faces as they frolicked on the beach, played in the water, chased balls and introduced themselves to one another was heartening and so good to see. Pure joy. Owners were responsible and cleaned up after their pets.... More

We went there for the Surf Dog event which was postponed due due polluted water. One important question we had was how bad was the bacteria warning? The Contamination Warning sign was tiny (and knocked over) at the entrance. It is a doggie's paradise if the water is clean, but we'd all like to protect our furry kids, so I... More

It was wonderful to see the dog's having fun on the beach and in the ocean (even though there was a sign regarding leash usage @ the time we were there). I was glad the people seemed to not be able to read, after all, it is "dog beach", so don't go there if you don't like dogs running around.

Before 9/1 you have to go north of the lagoon around the bend to be able to let your dog go off leash. Also, generally the folks that bring their dogs are very friendly as is their dogs regardless of size. We have a small dog that played 3-4 hours and was so happy. Needless to say everyone slept wonderfully....
