Hidden Gem
Nov 2019
Spectacular waves, playful seals, plenty of parking! Mussel Rock Park is a hidden gem to spend a few hours enjoying views of the ocean. Not your beach for swimming or sunning but great for walking and enjoying the seascape.

Oddly underwhelming

Surprisingly average given the spectacular nature of most of the northern California shoreline. To best appreciated this place read up on the geology and geologic history of this part of Daly City. From the trails look inland toward what appears to be freshly eroded cliffs. They are indeed freshly eroded, and notice the ugly houses at the top. In fact, the San Andreas fault runs roughly parallel to that cliffside. Standing on the beach you are on the Pacific plate. Those ugly houses on the top of the cliff are on the North American plate. these cliffs are the result of the San Andreas fault. All of the man-made barriers throughout this open space are to protect those ugly houses. Years ago, a few of them fell off the cliff.

Strong views
Oct 2019
Lots to view and to paint, our reason for gathering here. This was my second time. Trails leading down the mountain. Views in all directions: hillsides, south through Pacifica, north all the way to the Marin headlands, west to the ocean itself with some nice rock formations if you hike down to them. Do be aware that winds and fog can blow in at any time. There is no longer any port-o-potty or any other form of restroom, though. Lots of parking. Saw dogs off leash.

Sweeping views, coyotes, brown pelicans and sky kitesurfing. Very relaxing walks. Very surprised to see a coyote on my first visit.

Quiet escape with beautiful views

My wife, son and I went just before sunset and walked down to the shore and over to Tobin's Folly, a tunnel carved in the rock. The vistas were lovely, the walk enjoyable and there were very few people there given is close proximity to Daly City and Pacifica.

The park is dog friendly with one exception. There are coyotes in the park so you should not let your dog off leash, ever.

A colleague and I were working in S. San Francisco and had a couple hours to kill before heading to the airport. We saw Mussel Rock Park on the map and decided to check it out before grabbing some lunch. What at treat! The view of the cliffs is amazing. We saw a seal swimming around and a couple peregrine falcons.

Short but worth it

Easy start - all downhill but that means all up hill back. Trails through hills and close to the ocean. A great place to watch whales. If the trails were longer it would be a 5. Free parking as well.

Hang gliding and sand
Jul 2018 • Friends
This was a wonderful spot that didn’t have anyone else around except a few hang gliders above you. You park up top in a free parking lot and walk down the 10 mins on a paved path to the beach. The final 100 metres is tricky so have good shoes and be in shape to make it to the empty beach which is a cool trade off. A little bit of adventure and you get a wonderful hidden beach.
