We arrived at Nagiso station from Kyoto around midday and caught the local bus (¥300pp) to our ryokan at Otsumago. From there we stashed our bags and walked back down into Tsumago, which is beautiful and enjoyable and nibbled on udon for a late lunch!...More

We started the hike from Tsumago and it took about 2 hours to arrive at Magome. Tsumago is less commercial than Magome, so feels more authentic as a postal town. The first 6 Km was mostly uphill and the last 2 km was downhill. We...More

An easy walk and a way to see villages as they were during the Edo period. Stop off at a traditional inn/guesthouse to complete the experience. The start of the walk is a bit touristy but very soon becomes less busy.

I love this trail. It is very simple and charming. You can do very easily but there are some up hills not ao easy for people who is not used to do trails. The path has a lot of good surprises.

We only had one day to walk this trail, and it was raining cats and dogs. Armed with two big umbrellas, we braver the trail from Magome to Tsumago, because many people here said was more downhill that way. I'd say it doesn't really matter...More

Can you travel to Nakasendo from Matsumato and if so what is the route and how long does it take? We would like to try and do the Tsumago- Magome hike in the same day and then travel on to either Nagoya or Kyoto. Thanks in advance!! Sue
