When you get tired of sitting on the wineries in Napa and Sonoma this is a good change. It is quite a small area takes about half an hour; the folks that own it are very helpful and gracious. They're particularly helpful to the handicapped for whom they don't even charge. The bigger surprise is they did not charge the... More

we enjoyed this walk, even though half of it was blocked off due to recent heavy rains. It was amazing to think that California had its own pompeii -like eruption 3.4 million years ago and the trees which are now petrified used to be alive and are preserved. Its amazing to think of looking at something that old. This was... More

The Petrified Forest was an engaging and historical experience in and of itself. Upon first glance there is a very modest visitors center, but the grounds are accessible and easy to take at an individual pace or enjoy a guided tour. Manageable for walking, with the main trail being about half a mile, with an optional half mile add-on for... More

We visited the week of heavy rain and wind and early on a weekday so it was empty, which was a plus. Downside was one of the exhibits was blown down, which was the only pine specimen they have. As adults, it took us about 20 minutes to do the whole loop and my partner felt it was kind of... More

As per Hindu mythology , Ahalya was turned into stone by a curse . She was one of the most beautiful women .. Here we saw a beautiful forest turned into stone over million of years . It's a red wood forest but the trees that lay are all stones. The guide was very informative and took us round the... More

We did not take the tour as we have seen Petrified Forest in Arizona, however the beautiful specimens in their gift shop/museum is well worth the little 4 mile side trip.

Short walk on a nice wide path. The forest is enchanted with moss, lichen and colorful trees. No living redwoods in the location, just the petrified ones. Opt for the tour if you don't have young kids, the guide will tell you all the history and reason how the giants were petrified, among with the currents species during the walk.... More

We did the 1 mile loop, easy trail with minimal uphill, very few people out & there was petrified wood everywhere for you to touch! Can't wait to go back!!

We went there not expecting to much. We were greeted by the owner manager. We toured the gift shop first. There were so many interesting gifts at reasonable prices. The two ladies working there , perhaps the owners, not sure , were so friendly and knowledgable. We paid $12 each to walk on the property. It was so very worth... More

I have never seen the like of this before. There is a scenic drive with lots of places to stop and get out and look. The crystalised trees are amazing. There are facilities at the visitors centre and further toilet stops in the park. You definately need to get out of the car at some of the stops to get... More
