An easy two wheel drive back to desert gardens lead us to the back side of Coyote Mountain. Interesting geology. Love the desert and all it offers. Would be spectacular when wild flowers are blooming.

Borrego Springs is famous for its Spring wildflowers, and the easiest place to see them is Coyote Canyon. An easily drivable dirt road runs miles up the canyon. In a good year, you will see dozens of varieties of flowers, along with flowering ocotillos and cactus.

It is an adventure driving in through the Cactus Garden to hike one of the many trails here. There are lots of blooming ocotillo and other cactus this time of the year, plus other flowers scattered here and there in the desert. We saw Big Horn Sheep, an Antelope Squirrel, and even a coyote in mid day. There are NO... More

I drove my 2WD SUV about five miles up the road to the first willow grove where the road crosses Coyote Creek the first time. The road beyond that is for 4WD vehicles, so i turned around. The flowers and scenery were great.

Drove several miles into Coyote Canyon looking to find desert flowers and Ocotillo in bloom. We were early in the season but following some rain and warming temperatures did find some Ocotillo with their red flowers. This trip 4WD was not necessary for the distance we travelled even though we did go past the first crossing. I would love to... More

This is a lovely broad canyon in the desert which starts about 15 min drive from Borrego Springs and continues sloping up gently for a few dozen miles. At the end of Di Giorgio road the state park starts with a dirt and often sandy road. With a regular vehicle you should not attempt to drive for more than 4-5... More
