Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In early April, we saw at least twenty species of shorebirds. Bring binoculars and a bird guide to identify them while they are on the mudflats. When the tide changes, the birds leave. I liked it so much, I went back again. Also, there were thirty Harbor Seals with pups and two were an unusual rusty brown color!

When heading North on Rt.1 starting from Stinson Beach to Wilkins Gulch you can see this beautiful lagoon. The water were very calm in the lagoon during the evening when we were driving on Rt. 1. Number of folks were fishing, and there are a few areas where you can pull over and enjoy the lagoon from Rt.1. Launching a kayak is not recommended from Rt.1 into this lagoon based on a sign we saw that was posted.

We stumbled upon this little hippie town on a drive along the coast. We absolutely loved the sense of community there. Lots of people helping other people and animals too. Everywhere you look there is local artwork, poetry and music. There is a community "clothing closet" for folks in need which is painted the most beautiful colors. We checked out Smiley's Saloon where supposedly the Grateful Dead used to perform. We found out that quite a few GD tribute bands perform in this town. The lagoon is just lovely with the backdrop of the cliffs. Really cool place to stop.

Flat water, check high and low tide times for best times to visit. Launch kayak at the end of the beach road and float into the lagoon on the incoming tide.

Where the lagoon meets the ocean is a beautiful spot on a sunny day. There is no parking area, so leave your car in the village if you can. We visited on a weekday at 3pm and most cafes seemed to have closed signs displayed, which was disappointing. but lived up to the image of a village that does not want to be visible to the visitor

Just drove by and enjoyed the view from car but then we saw many sea lions sun bathing in shallow part of the lagoon. It was soo funny seeing them making the things sea lions usually do.

A beautiful drive up the lagoon. We saw lots of seals with their babies, basking on the sandbanks and lots of little egrets. There is also the Audubon Canyon nature reserve. You can then go back to San Francisco via Stinson Beach or up over the Tamalpais Mountain Park. Either way is lovely.

The Bolinas Lagoon has stopping points and pull offs all the around it. I gather a lot of folks just view it from Stinson Beach, so are missing out. As you travel to Bolinas, but still in Hwy 1 pull over to see the hundreds of seals resting at the sand bar in the middle. Low & high tide mark greatly different amounts of activities so make sure you visit at both if you can.
