Interesting history

This is a simple place to stop in and learn some California history. It is interesting to hear and know that so much took place in this little building.

Had a few days in the San Francisco area and as we were staying in Benicia we did a little local sight seeing as part of our trip. There is quite a bit of interesting history in the Benicia area which we hadn't really known before arriving, and this place is a good starting point for getting your bearings

This is a great Historical place to visit. I hope the state grants the citizens of Benicia money to complete the restoration of a gem. This was the 2cnd Capital of california before the Capital was moved to Sacramento. A must see in a precious town.

i love the small, quaint town of Benicia - a tiny jewel along the bay with a rich history. One of the best stops in town is the old state capitol building - perfectly preserved - with friendly, informative docents. Both the House and Senate chambers are complete furnished complete with desks, newspapers and top hats. A fun piece of... More

We didn't intend to visit this historical sight, but a search for a bathroom led us here. It was very interesting and the person on staff at the time was friendly and interesting to talk to.

Benicia is one of these jewels often overlooked by visitors who are heading for the major sights. This quiet historic town offers enough to spend a few hours exploring: a small but fairly nice historic park in downtown, a coffee shop or two, a few restaurants and shops. The town has been well preserved, it has nice pedestrian walks, and... More

located a few blocks in from the water's edge, this dramatic building houses a small museum of it's short-lived history as 1 of the 3 capitals of California. Do visit the carriage house next door to see some of the refurbished buggies of the mid-1800s

Landmark in the middle of quiet town of Benicia. Served as state capital before moving to Sacramento. Interesting history. Good walking visit after meal at nearby restaurants. Did not go inside as it was closed after hours.

I visited this building when I first moved to the area in 1997. It was lovingly preserved and dearly needed donations to continue to keep this history going!

be sure to find out when it's open, but even walking around it is interesting if you love history. The story of why it was only used once is quite fascinating!
