In and around Mandu is a great area to see and (perhaps) discover centuries old monuments. The monuments are architecturally and aesthetically very different from the one's we are used to seeing in Rajasthan. It is one of the oldest surviving palaces in India, yet, very forward in terms of design and feel. Wonderful place. Quite sexy/ very romantic -... More

Mandu or Mandavgad is a ruined city in the present-day Mandav area of the Dhar district.Mandu, due to its strategic position and natural defences, was an important place with a rich and varied history.

You need at least a day to cover majority of the famous monuments in Mandu. A guide is a must but beware of fake ones. Rani roopmati palace complex, jahaz Mahal complex and nearby structures like Jami masjid, hoshand Shah tomb are the main monuments.

It is really amazing how many monuments you encounter in this small place. The construction dates from 10 th century to 16. Starting from Raja Bhoj, a Hindu king, it changed hands to Khilji Dynasty-that is Pathan and afgan architecture- ending to the Mughal one. THe Jami masjid held the court of Raja bhoj which was converted into mosque at Akbar's... More

Mandu have several monuments spread across different locations and hence you need a car as well as a local guide for a full day to do justice to the beautiful monuments of Mandu and understand their historic significance. Its advisable to carry water, sunscreen and cap/scarf along. Though the monuments are managed by ASI , there are no official ASI... More

Mandu has a lot to offer considering it is an offbeat destination. There are many monuments around this small mountain town and its charm is retained because of its limited accessibility. It's a short drive from Indore and has a nice view point on the way (forest & waterfall). The monuments are mostly around the same area and can be... More
