Not as beautiful as other parts of Hampi. The statue is really big and look great but it lacks the beauty when compared to others

This is a large beautiful monolithic statue, actually of Lakshmi Narasimha- if you read the plaque on the side. The Lakshmi (who was seated on the left of Narasimha) was destroyed by marauding invaders and the broken arms of the statue are testament to this negative part of India's history. This statue is difficult to figure out, unless you have a good guide to explain it all to you. My guide explained it all then I could see what was going on, because there were added parts.

The statue of Ugra Narasimha is the largest statue in Hampi. The Narasimha ( form of Lord Vishnu) is sitting on the coil of a giant seven-headed snake called Sesha Nag. The heads of the snake acts as the hood above his head. At one point of time there was a temple, now only the statue is remaining.  The original... More

The lost city of Vijayanagar - While Ugra Narasimha stands out apart in the entire Hampi attractions list along with the chariot, the entire place gives you a feel of the once prosperous kingdom. Another things I loved was the arcade that surrounds the temple - my first thought was - Move over stonehenges of UK, even our ruins are... More
