I stopped counting the steps after 400 but it was not too hard just took a long time. BUT just plain extraordinary. Lots to see plus a great view from up high. Also a big feature is that it's not crowded as most tourists don't...More

A very long walk up but well worth it for the amazing views and you cannot go to Petra and not visit the monastery

This place is a gem. The Monastery does not have that many people come, as it is necessary to climb for at least 30 minutes, but it is totally doable if you are able to walk. Sit in one of the "shaded caves" in front...More

I personally think that the Monastery is better than the Treasury. Alright, the access has no comparison because The Siq will always beat the long slog up the hill and all those steps, but it is so worth it. The crowds are less, the Monastery...More

To get here you have to climb up circa 900 steps, but when you get there well worth the sight. I took 35 minutes to get to the top, but was taking photos back down the valley on the way up. You can get a...More

Those who take the hike or donkey ride to the top will be rewarded with the incredible view of the monastery which is similar in structure to the Treasury but with less tourists. There's a cafe and restrooms available nearby with wifi.

If you're at Petra anyway then take the hike to the Monastery, it's definitely worth the journey. When you finally get to the top, you are rewarded by this site. If you decide to hike just a little farther, you can find very picturesque views...More

The historic sights just continue as you wander through the Petra "time capsule". One after another the carved buildings roll up to be stared at in awe and then photographed. This building is probably more spectacular than the famed Treasury, but its further down the...More

The best part of this strenuous hike up the 850 stone steps are the views on the way up and down. The Monastery itself although large and impressive is no more so than the temples and Treasury in main Petra. It is about 45 min...More

Please note that I'm over weight and I was able to come see the monastery, it's really easy to get and totally worth the walk, also you could take a mule or horse to it but I wouldn't do that to a poor animal, plus...More

How much time do you have? I ran up in about 20 minutes, but it wasn't easy :) ... it all depends on your physical shape - your twins will not walk up there. it's easy to figure it out: if you don't feel tired by the time... More

I hate to disagree with Mr BobandSharon but using a donkey is not advisable up or down. It is very hard on the animals and it is not an easy ride because of the steep areas. If you are willing to take the time to go slowly... More
