Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Only for experienced hikers!. Definitely not a hike for beginners, you also need to have proper equipment. A couple of the trails are closed in winter but you can find easier ones. Views are spectacular but keep in mind its a full day so you need to leave early especially in the winter. Unlikely to meet wildlife and take extra water.

There a lots of different hikes to choose from in this area but this one was a good intermediate 4-hour loop through the gorge, then up to Cabana Curmatura and back down to the parking lot. There are two parking lots you can start from. If you start at the first one you come to then you will finish right at your car, and if you go to the second one you’ll have to walk about half an hour along the road at the end. Doesn’t much matter either way. We left our car at the first parking lot and walked left (southwest) and followed the road into the gorge for about an hour. Around then you will see 2 trails heading up the hill on your right. According to the signs the blue one takes a bit longer, which means the yellow one is probably just steeper and more direct. We took the yellow path and there was about half an hour of steep uphill through the trees before it met up with the blue path in a clearing just below the final climb to Cabana Curmatura. Altogether it took us about 2:15 to get to the hut where they sell food and, most importantly, beer. From there you follow the main path around the hut and down the hill. Eventually the path will fork. The blue path to the left takes you up to a peak then loops back around to the hut again. Stick to the yellow path through some scenic pastures and eventually it will drop down into the trees for a fairly steep descent all the way back to the parking lot. Nice, scenic hike that is a decent workout but not overly technical. If you’re interested in other info from our time in Romania you can check out my blog.

We are going to these places from 30 years and each year we discover something new.Usually we are going almost every year and we stay at a family friends in Zarnesti (at a distance of 28 km from the city of Brasov, by road, bus or railway;circa 200 km north of BUCHAREST, the capital of ROMANIA.), the most important town for visiting the National Park .It is also an ideal starting point for approaches in the northern part of the massif as well as from Zarnesti a forest road starts from the south-western part of the town, leading through the Zarnesti Gorges, that we show in the photos attached.

After stoping by the park headquarters, we were received by Andrea who was very helpful and gave us good advice for a hike. We drove to the park and did a 5 h hiking that took us through all the scenery options of the Carpathians: thick forest, grassland and beautiful gorges.
There are options for people from all ages and time constraints. I would definitely recommend buying the park map (sturdy paper and very informative)

We stayed at Pensiune Fabius and they had a map - the trails were a bit hard to find because the marks did not start until the very end of one of the large streets- we asked people on the street and they pointed us in the right direction - we went on the yellow cross trail and then took the blue dot trail to piatra mica - beautiful although a bit icy and a little too much snow but it was possible - afterwards we went back down and followed the yellow cross to Cabana Curmatura (really really good food and they are really friendly, basic hut with cold running water outside and toilet outside, heated with wood, really cosy, bring your clubs flag etc. for their wall)

Pictured from a helicopter, Piatra Craiului looks like a giant dinosaur skeleton surrounded by forest. The massive white limestone ridge crosses the mountain from North to South. The highest Peak (La Om) is 2.238 meters altitude, offering stunning views.
Unlike many reviewers, we started our hike from South side of the mountain, which is less packed with tourists. After parking the car at Brusturet chalet, we hiked trough Valea Seaca gorges to the Grind shelter and started to climb the Eastern slopes to the summit (La Om, 2.238 m altitude). The slope is very steep and requires some effort. There are spectacular views all the way up. The clouds and fog will play a dramatic show for you, fighting the limestone walls.
We took a snack on the summit and followed the red spots marked pathway on the Southern Ridge to Saua Funduri. This is a really breath taking trail. Sometimes is so spectacular, it's beyond imagination.
From Saua Funduri we descended to Brusturet chalet, tired but happy.
It's essential to take water with you, as much you can carry, as there are no water sources on the way. It's important to have good weather condition, so don't hike the Southern Ridge during winter time or during a rainy foggy day if you're not trained. Check the weather forecast before going there!
Brusturet chalet is reachable from Podu Dambovitei or Sirnea. You can hike the Southern Ridge from Curmatura chalet as well, but you need more time.
The name of this white limestone mountain (Piatra Craiului) means "The Stone of the Prince"

We have hiked from Zarnesti to Curmatura Chalet and back. Very beautiful scenery, well marked paths and excellent surprise at the end of the journey - the chalet is very nice, well maintained and they serve fabulous food. We came back on a different track compared to the way up, which made the whole trip extremely nice. Weather was not great, but at least it did not rain.

A top attraction for nature lovers. Take a map in Zarnesti visitor center (do not expect too much). Cross the reserve from Zarnesti to Magura, Pestera to Bran on the other side. 6 hours slow drive. Road conditions are weather dependent. Prefer a higher car (4X4 not realy required).
Several walking trails. Don't miss Zarnesti Canyon walk. Beautiful views, nice villages.

Hi, I'm visiting next month to do the easy/moderate hiking trails. Is there any specific opening times, is it free? and finally are there maps available? not sure how this works, it's my first time! Apologies for the 'dumb' questions, I'm finding the website quiet confusing. I'd appreciate any advice. Many thanks

Dear people,
We are planning our August trip to Romania.
We want to check options for easy tracks in Piatra Craiului National Park.
We want to find tracks that will take from 3 to 5 hours.
I was not able to find exact tracks on site of the park pcrai.ro/lang-en/8/Vizitarea/harta_turistica.html.
The map below has a lot of tracks and we do not know where to start and where to end
Where can we find maps of tracks?
Could you recommends easy tracks that starts near Bran?
Thank you in advance for your help,
Michael

Hi.
You can check the app Muntii Nostri. I used it to plan the hikes and to find my way if the markings have been sparse.
In town of Zarnesti, wich is close to Brasov and Bran, there is a visitor center and map with all the treks and their categorization according their difficulty.
One it seemed easy was Zarnesti Town- Zarnesti Gorge- Cabana Curmatura (where you can have nice meal, or spend a night).

Quick question for you! I will be doing some hiking early October and staying at Curmatura for one night but have been having a hard time finding info on the parking situation. Is it possible to park overnight at the trail head in Zărnești? Thanks!
Written 15 September 2017
You can park your car where the marked trails start, approximately at 1 km after you exit from Zarnesti. The place is called "Fantana lui Botorog", this name representing a spring.

What address should I enter in the map to reach the park?
Is there a trek for families with children aged 8-9?
