Nat worship is part of the history of Myanmar. This temple has colorful statues with gift of fruit, flowers and money left by the worshippers

Nice and lovely. The view from the top is spectular. It is worth climbing the steps just to feel the unpolluted air and the beautiful scenery below.

The view to the rock with the temple and the views from the summit are outstanding. The tradition of the Nats is very interesting Do worry from the climb of 777 steps. It is a slow climbs due to the fact that there are many worshipers coming so it goes easy and slowly.

As you ascend (barefoot--watch out for monkey poo) you see multiple shrines to nats. There are a limited number of "official" nat spirits but the people have other nats, water spirits and tree spirits.

The Nat temple at the top of Mount Popa is worth the day trip from Bagan. The place has less tourists and is mainly locals giving offerings. The climb is not too difficult and the views are amazing. Just watch out for the monkeys.

There a lot of steps on the trek up to the top not for the faint hearted in places as some are really steep well worth the effort to the top once you get past the monkeys and step sweepers the temple and view is worth the effort just take your time and take water with you

Mt. Popa can be reached in about 3 hours from Mandalay or an hour from Pagan by car. Here you will find a real Burmese Buddhist pilgrimage experience honoring the 37 Nats (lords) that most venerate at one time or another. There are also venues for weikza worshipers. Not a tourist place, but the real deal... Go for it if... More
