Among the many pagodas and stupas in Old Bagan, Buphaya Paya is extraordinarily unique from the rest. Firstly, it is located right near the beach overlooking the Ayeyarwaddy River. Secondly, the shimmering gilded dome shaped stupa positions right at the focal point of the temple resembles a lighthouse extending her bright golden rays at the boats and ferries plying in... More

Buphaya Paya is very crowded and nothing special at all. For us even the view of the Ayerawaddy river was average – low water level, lots of garbage. Go somewhere else instead.

Not much in the way of interest here apart from a massive Golden Ball, that they dug up years ago and you can read the story here. Thats about it, to be honest. As they say, moving on, nothing to see here......

Buphaya Pagoda is the easiest way to see a sunset at the river with out much effort or climbing up some pagoda. The view of the river with the sun setting is actually quite nice. A bit crowded because everyone seems to s top by here quickly and you will most likely be hit for buying paintings or taking a... More

There isn't really any reason to come here unless you want to take part in the public shower with the locals. Otherwise, this is a nice place to watch the sunset. Even better, hire a private boat for a few dollars to see the sunset from the river. Much better than from the shore.

On the banks of the Irrawaddy, makes for some great views. Very different from the other Pagodas in Bagan, The gourd shaped Bu Paya is a reconstruction. . There is a more modern working shrine close by, which seems popular with the local population.

It's by the river. Unless you have a lot of time, it's alright to give this temple a miss. But if you want to have a good understanding of Bagan important temples, I suppose it's good a visit to understand where the temple is. This is one of the more important temples for the locals. The river water will raise... More

The pagoda is pretty but not unique in any way. The views of the Ayerawaddy river is nice. I think this place can be avoided.

The temple is located next to a river bank, you can enjoy a horizonful of sandy river bank. there are shops next the river, and you can take a boat to cruise the river.
