Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a really interesting walking tour in Ghardaïa with an older man. He made us feel very welcome and explained all the history and culture in an engaging and easily-digestible way. Relaxing and pleasant with time to take photos. In sharp contrast to the tour of Beni Isguen which lasted far too long and was conducted by a boring younger man who lectured us unrelentingly in dark corners so we hardly had time to actually see anything. An interesting contrast.

Loved the culture. Friendly people.
It was a bit difficult to communicate as most people spoke French and Arabic.
Very reasonable hotels.
Taxi and food are very cheap.
No one tried cheating us.

I visited Ghardaia in July. I was probably the only western tourist there because who is dumb enough to visit a city in the Sahara in July when it’s 115 degrees F. Aside from the heat Ghardaia is AWESOME. M’zhab valley with 5 small cities clustered on hills. Toured the cities and had a guide from the local tourist board who spoke arabic walk us through the walled city of Beni-Isguen. I was with a couple and the husband spoke some English and translated for me. As with all places I visited I had researched prior. The M’zhab culture is very, very secular and you really respect them. I enjoyed the tour. The main Ghardaia market square and souk is very lively and interesting. People are very accommodating as well as friendly. During driving tour of the cities we stopped at a roadside place for lunch. Fire roasted beef w/bread and vegetables while sitting on rugs under rug cover. Very good meal Bedouin style w/locals! All in all on of the most unique places I have ever been (40+ countries). Ghardaia is a must visit when in the region! It is now permanently residing within my bucket list checklist.

Ghardaia is a very special place. A pentopolis ie made up of 5 ancient cities.
It maintains its traditions seemingly effortlessly while being fully aware of modernity just outside the walls.
It is a place of peace and tranquility. It was very welcoming, rightfully asking that their culture is respected by all visitors.
It is currently not touristed much. I met 2 others from Belgium, that’s all.
You’ll need help getting there.
Omar from Fancyellow travel ‭+213 5 42840682‬ helped me.
I had the best time.
Stay in the traditional guest house in the palmeraie if possible. Half board is the norm here, served excellent food.
