Stayed at Holty's Hideaway just a minute from the beach great place to stay. Snorkelling is best at high tide and 3 or so hours either side enjoy the brilliant colours of the variety of fish, starfish, sea snakes, morey eels and sea urchins good coral but not great beautiful warm water. Best beach on the mainland.

We stopped here as part of say tour around the island. Even though it was not the best weather we could definitely see that this was the best beach on the mainland. If you cannot get out to ouster islands this is where I would stay next time.

Went snorkelling here about 6 times. You need to pick your times around high tide and about 3 hours either side. That gives you 6 hours to play with. Lovely coral, you look for the brilliant stuff, lots of fish, sea stars, starfish, sea snakes, morey eels, sea urchins. Water lovely and warm but take a rash vest to protect... More

Lovely beach and sunsets - great snorkelling. Surfing is good on the reef - heaps of tropical fish. Not happy about the locals leaving rubbish everywhere though. Whales can be seen regularly outside of the reef between July to November

We have stayed at other resorts and hotels in Tonga and this place wins hands down for the best hospitality, food, clean rooms, and if you are fortunate like we were, you'll be treated with free whale watching!!! In our most recent trip in Oct 2016, we witnessed a pod of whales from the shore, it was an amazing experience.... More

a great place to snorkel, watch sunsets and laze about. stay at a resort on this beach, but Liku alofa resort has the best restaurant and facilities. be careful around the reef when snorkelling and take your own mask etc.

Ha'atafu beach is a coral sand beach, so it can be a bit rough on bare feet. Even so, it's a great beach for bathing in the sun and going for a stroll. The snorkeling was quite good, but I wish it was a marine reserve as there is a lot of wildlife that would benefit. There can be sharp... More
