This community-owned reserve was not as well developed (trails were poor) and the community guide assigned to us was not at all good. And Mitsinjo Reserve would not allow you to bring your own local guide. We'd been using Morris for the previous 2.5 days...More

Mitsinjo Reserve is a small forest reserve run by local community, less known than Andasibe National park, however I think it is a better choice. We took two tours there, afternoon 2-3 hours walk (at around 2 pm) and 2 hours night walk (at 6:30...More

What an amazing couple of hikes I did around this private reserve. I had great guides who were both knowledgeable and passionate. Got to encounter so many different species and in the comfort of having relatively few other people around. Seeing Indri up close with...More

I can't recommend Mitsinjo highly enough. The guides are fantastic and much more reasonably priced then the Andasibe National Park. This is also a completely community run reserve so you can physically see where your money is going. They run a womens heath center, amphibian...More

If Madagascar is to save its forests, more places like Mitsinjo need to be established. Community members, under the tutorship of an extraordinary German couple I gather, have preserved the forest, learned to identify just about everything, learned the major languages... My guide had virtually...More

We have previously visited Andasibe (twice) and much preferred Mitsinjo. Why? Firstly it is quieter and feels less touristy (for those with mobility issues, I should add the ground is also a little more up and down than in Andasibe). Secondly, it is run by...More

We were stunned that this reserve isn't higher up on others' lists. Yes, it is small, but it also is uncrowded, well maintained and allows for the unique experience of feeding wild Indri Indri. We wish we had gone twice.

went from 6pm-7.15pm, quite a short walk, very dark, need low powered torches; did not see much despite having 2 guides with us - a couple of tiny frogs and the smallest lemur, about the length of a lead pencil! Plus a green chameleon. May...More
