A lot of history seen here or from here

I've been up to this cave at least 12 times. It shows us how people from long ago chose the best site in the entire area to call home. The view from the mouth of the cave is incredible, although what you see today is not what the first inhabitants saw. Read up on it before you go. It is a 15 to 20 minute hike uphill. From the mouth of the cave if you look LEFT you can see the monument at the Pampa de Quinua battle field (1824), If you look straight ahead, you can see the site of the Wari Ruins, and then to the far RIGHT, you can see the city of Ayacucho. A lot of history in one panoramic view.

On your way to the town of Huanta you will see a small sign Pikimachay take the hike very short, sick view and the plus of standing in the cave where the first man was found!

Interesting, small, physically demanding

It was interesting but small. Climb slowly or better be fit as the steepness of the climb is 30-45 degrees and roughly 1200 meters (0.75 miles) in altitude

A half an hour hike up a hill/mountain, it has beautiful views of Ayacucho and our tour guide noted that the Sendero Luminoso group had used it for a hideout... it's a place of solemn history, not just a random cave, and was included in our tour of La Pampa too. Would go back. Spend maybe half an hour here, not more though.

More English speakers need to see this place.
