This is the most magical place I have ever visited. It would be fantastic on your own, but was even better with a guide. We listened to how the Moai were carved out of the rock, moved down the hill and then 'walked' to their final resting places. It was mind-blowing to imagine how the Rapa Nui peoples could do... First this is one of the only stops that has a restroom facility and bring a $ as these are not free. They also have a small shop and food counter if you want to sit a relax after viewing the site. This is a large area, a bit of climbing upward on the paths and not really for someone... More

Easter Island is a magnificent place itself, but Rano Raraku captures the mystery of the history of the Moai! It is probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in my life!! A lot of walking, but it is worth it!

Visiting the volcanic crater of Rano Raraku is a great experience, both on the inside and outside of the crater the Moai's were carved out of the volcanic rock of the crater. Paul, our tour guide illustrated to us how the Moai's were carved our, put on there feet, and shared with us the different hipótesis of how the statues... More

Totally beautiful and fascinating at the same time. A piece of magic history that helps explain the mysteries of the Moais. The setting (surrounding hills, view of the countryside, etc.) are breathtaking. Worth visiting the crater of the old volcano for a surprise. Simply - go check it out.

This was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, not only because of the monuments and statues, but also the sightseeing is from another planet.

For almost 40 years I dreamed of going to Easter Island and walking among the great Moai. The first sight of Rano Raraku with all the Moai rising out of the ground was breath taking. It was amazing to see so many Moai in one place. It was difficult to take it all in in one visit. We ended up... More

Can't rave enough about the culture nothing I have ever seen like this before you can't help but wonder how these people could make these heads. The size is mind blowing.

After viewing the quarry with it's partially carved Moai, it remains bewildering and mesmerising as to how the statues were moved so seemingly effortlessly from their bedrock to locations around the island.
