You need to make this site on of your first stops as it is the quarry where the Moai statues are made. Many are on their way to their final resting platform using the Moai trail.

Some of the best surviving moai to see are here to see. We visited in April and it was ideal weather, blue skies but not too hot to hike and see the area.
