When my son was young we used to come here and call it our secret garden. Set off the main areas of this beautiful Essex jewel it would be easy for the casual visitor to miss Bridge End Gardens. Don't. I've been coming here years and yet find new areas and attractions to explore. (This time, oranges and lemons in... More

A perfectly formed formal garden that is free for all and only a few minutes from Saffron Walden. A nice walk is to be had around the surrounding areas.

Lovely collection of gardens and a serious maze. PS. for the unadventurous, there is a plan of the maze in the Information Centre, which can be photographed prior to entering!

I was a student in this area more than forty years ago and have happy memories of seeing open air Shakespeare in these delightful hidden gardens. I wasn't disappointed during this recent visit. I highly recommend a quiet hour wondering round these well kept gardens.

My guiding rule for mazes is to always take the option that seems to lead you further from the centre. Maze designers assume that you will always choose the route that promises to take you towards the centre, so be counter-intuitive. You will generally find that by choosing the outer option, you will find a path that leads you suddenly... More

I spent a pleasant half hour sitting in these gardens in spring sunshine without anyone else around. A unusual experience for me to have a quiet period of meditation and reflection. A lovely little spot of immaculate gardens and tranquility in the middle of a busy town

The Bridge End Gardens are not far from the Town Centre and a must see if visiting Saffron Walden. They are very well maintained and beautiful to wander around. We tried to find the centre of the maze but failed!

Spent an afternoon in these gardens with my 5 year old son. The yew maze was a great hit, we ended up it doing it 3 times and it's quite tricky!

Just about to go into the 8 bells for lunch and right next is this little gate to a fabulous garden with lots of different areas, even a maze. We couldn't find the middle and chickened out when we found the exit. Lunch calling.

The gardens were well kept and very tranquil to wander around. We were impressed at all the citrus fruit in the greenhouses. The maze was fun...we didn't get to the middle!!
