Walked to see the donkeys but the sanctuary had closed. Nerja itself is great. Everything you need , beach, shops, restaurants , close by everything from walks to transport. loved the place, would love to spend more time there.

We looked and looked and looked. THERE IS NO DONKEY SANCTUARY. Luckily there are a LOT of bars as I needed to drown my sorrows because I love donkeys. Came home and signed up to Brookes who help beasts of burden worldwide.
Sadly Donkey Sanctuary closed at the end of June 2014. Due to a change of licence regulations by the Nerja council the Sanctuary could not get a licence and has had to close and what happened to the animals I'm not sure. Sad, but even...More
Sad to say the Donkey Sanctuary is now closed due to lack of funding and lack of support from the local authority (or so I believe). All live-stock found new homes so don't worry, just the workers came off worse.
