fantastic beach, just by the balcon de europe, steep path but worth it, bit of path keeps you off the sand, beach showers for the sand, lovely little fishermans houses, nice and sheltered

A hilly place
Sep 2018
With hill after hill and some are very steep it's not for the faint hearted or me again, I enjoyed it whilst there but too steep for us, we regard ourselves as middle aged and reasonably fit but were found wanting on some of these streets.

Perfect Apartment
Jun 2018 • Couples
We stayed in a 1 bed apartment, right at the top of this complex in June 2018. The apartment had been recently refurbished, with a modern kitchen and bathroom and air con. The apartment had 2 terraces - one outside the lounge - perfect for breakfast, and a superb roof terrace, which was not overlooked by any other apartment as it was right at the top. The views were stunning from both terraces. As others have said, lots of steps down to the beach, but the gardens are very well kept - the pond is fed from a stream so is clean and has good displays of water liles, fish, turtles and frogs in the pond, The steps lead through the pond area, past waterfalls and over bridges so it is a very nice stroll down - coming back up at the end of a night was a challenge at first but we were used to it by the weeks end - and we are both 65. We travelled from the airport to Nerja by public transport - train to Malaga then local bus to Nerja - very easy, very cheap and an interesting ride in an air conditioned coach. We used the bus into Nerja a few times - 1 Euro and it drops you off in the town centre - taxi back one night, but walked the others - a pleasant stroll past the Parador and a good excuse for a night cap in one of Burrianas bars before heading up the steps. At the moment, there are major road works on the road where the gardens for the complex meets the road at Burriana - I believe it is for the new water treatment plant - although it is not pretty, huge hole in the road - it did not distract at all. Would we visit again? In a heartbeat! It was fab!

Excellent Value Apartment Complex near Beach but not for Mobility Challenged people.
Jun 2018 • Family
In 1991 we stayed at Capistrano Play with our children and had a great holiday. We returned in June 2018 with our grandson. The Complex hasn't changed at all but I think many of the apartments have been modernised. We had a 2 bedroom apartment with a large lounge/kitchen a full bathroom and a shower room. Outside we had a south facing terrace and a small garden area. The complex has a swimming pool and a paddling pool for infants with a bar for residents and guests. There is a secure gate access to Burriana Beach with all the bars, restaurants and cafe's. The centre of Nerja is about 15 to 20 minutes walk from the complex. We really enjoyed our second stay at Capistrano Playa. If you can manage the steps in the complex and down to the beach it is a good quiet secure complex. There is a lift which serves the lower half of the complex. From our apartment there were 150 steps to the beach so not suitable for people with mobility problems. It certainly kept us fit! We didn't hire a car and used a taxi to get to and from Malaga airport. The nearest large supermarket is about a 15 minute walk from the complex although there is a town bus service which passes the supermarket. There is a small supermarket at Burriana Beach for essentials but remember you have to climb those steps to get back to your apartments

Capistrano is a lovely beach, see my previous review, apart from the many steps ,........

But this is not the reason for this review. On looking for things to do, in or near Nerja on TripAdvisor, I was intrigued to see a catamaran tour to Papagayo beach. The trip that was recommended was in fact to Papagayo beach in Lanzarote! This is the second similar confusion I've come across in less than a week.
CAPISTRANO beach, which I have been to every year for the past 10, is still lovely virtually in Nerja town centre but with limited services.

October Holiday

Weather was excellent - not too hot. Lovely resort with character and various different coves/beaches. Not much in the way of nightlife other than entertainment in the few large hotels. Good shopping.

Too many steps

Its next to the well-serviced burriana beach but has no services of its own, so we found it a bit scruffy, not the best beach in nerja.

Convenient but dated.

Very convenient for the Burriana beach. Masses of steps so only suitable for the very fit. Rather dated.

Fabulous resort!

Wonderful Spanish resort - full of character. Excellent facilities, including a Snack Bar and Swimming Pool. Very close to the most beautiful popular beach. Has lots of steps down to the beach.
