Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Lovely place and food. Great brunch menu until 3pm. We went on a Saturday around lunchtime and there was a rugby match on. We weren’t interested in the match so we got a nice table up the back. Lovely and efficient staff.

Bit of Christmas shopping and needed a spot to dine. Tried Cons by chance and what a bit of luck. Family of 5 and everyone's food was amazing . I had fish and chips and it was some of the best I've had I a very long time. Staff were excellent and couldn't do enough for us. And great value too.. highly recommended

Found this tastefully decorated establishment while in town today for the Fleadh. Had the roast of the day for lunch which was 5*, really enjoyed it & husband had the burger & fries. A small gripe but burger had no salad & the fries were similar to McDonalds. We would still be back though 😌

There are not too many options for fine dining in Mullingar these days so Con’s Gastro Pub was very welcomed addition in the last year. But!!! The last two visits we’ve had to this establishment have leave’t us wondering why have the original standards dropped so dramatically?? Change of chef? Change of presentation and quality of dishes and absolutely no added dishes or change of menu!! There has never been any specials offered and if you ask for a wine it will be plonked onto the table with screw cap attached! I can excuse much of the above when the food is great but when food and service is depleting so dismally as it has done in Con’s, there is simply no excuse. It was simply a waste of money and if that wasn’t bad enough, the manager kept pilling people on top of each other in an otherwise empty restaurant to everyone’s dismay!!! It was an utterly disappointing experience for myself and my partner… Ah well😬

Decided to go to for dinner here after hearing excellent feedback from anyone who had previously been and had been there for lunch prior to this and was met with excellent service and great food. However, I was left disappointed after my evening meal due to a very unfriendly waitress. We were there to celebrate a 21st birthday and were looking forward to an enjoyable evening. Unfortunately, we were informed after we had placed our order that the fish and chips was no longer available and two of the orders had to be changed. That was fine and got sorted very quickly however there was another mistake with the re-order. I work in hospitality myself and understand that these things can happen, but I was very disappointed with the reaction of the waitress when she was told that, the food she was holding was not what we had ordered. Another girl, who had put the order through was extremely apologetic and polite about the situation however the other waitress proceeded to stand over our table with the dish insisting that we must have ordered the dish. As someone who works in hospitality, I know what customer service standards should be and unfortunately this is what let this establishment down. However the food was good and the interior was very well decorated and presented.

My husband and I stopped for lunch on our way back from The West and the food hit the spot, however it was nothing special and definitely overpriced.
The staff was really friendly, especially the lady who looked after us, who was just what you need in a local pub!

Fresh off the plane, we found this place as we began our search for my grandfather's birthplace. We arrived at 11:30 am, before lunch was being served. But, our hostess could not have been more welcoming. She offered us tea and scones while we waited for the kitchen to prep for the lunch hour. She offered my mom some soup, fresh garden vegetable - I regret not ordering it for myself. It was delicious, and perfect for a weary traveler and a rainy day. My tea and scone were so warming, I felt like settling in. She gave my son a hot chocolate, that tasted as good as it looked. I got a chicken wrap that was delicious, even though I was full from my tea and scones, I still had to eat it. But, to be honest, they were so warm and friendly, I think no matter what they fed me, I would have loved it.

We were passing through Mullingar and decided to stop. We knew as it was getting late in the evening the selection would not be great but we had never been to Cons so decided to give it a try. When I walked in I asked were they still serving food as the sign outside said food from 12 to 4 pm and it was 3.55 as I walked in the door. We were offered a few options as we were told lunch was over. We asked for two soups and two chicken sandwiches, we received exactly as we ordered no garnish fries etc. The soup came in what seemed to be very small bowls and the sandwiches were really more salt with a touch of chicken. The total bill came to 20.00 which i thought was expensive for such basic food.. I think they need to reevaluate their pricing structure

To be honest I'm a local. The food is very consistently good in Con's. Not too over-reliant on salt etc. generally good wholesome, home-cooked food. Fantastic deserts and the best coffee in town. A lot of locals rate it as a clean friendly family run, professional establishment. There's lots of choice in Mullingar but Con's holds it's own no matter what the competition. Great personable staff who take pride in the reputation of the pub. We can easily recommend it. Also a great place to watch a European Cup or international rugby match on a weekend day or evening. A very respectable place.

Con and Joan Gilsenan and the staff of Cons Bar and Lounge in Mullingar -had a superb welcome for all the Bank of Ireland ladies and gentlemen who met up for a reunion in November 2013. As usual - the bar looks amazing - beautifully decorated and maintained and the service in Cons is famous.

its been many years since I have had the opportunity to eat in Cons - but based on the gorgeous food served by Joan (and her friend Mary Mul) the standard is still as high as ever.

If you love great food and luxurious tasteful surroundings - then Cons is a 'must see' in Mullingar.
