The family history here is arresting, but the views over the lake, park walks, and the walled garden made the day for us.

Belvedere is a gorgeous place; the setting, house & lake are spectacular & the stories of the 'wicked earl' & his poor wife as well as more recent residents are equally fascinating.

Our Rough Guide was giving Belvedere House a high score so we decided it must be a 'must see'. The surroundings are indeed quite promising (the terraces esp) but the house itself is small and indeed sparsely furnished. Besides that, the upper floors are closed....More
