About
Located within Ireland’s Ancient East with many layers of life and history in the big house, Belvedere House Gardens & Park demonstrates beauty, intrigue and passion that make for an enchanting Visitor Experience and an excellent day out with a difference. The magnificent 160 acre Lakeside Estate of Belvedere House, Gardens & Park boasts a fully restored Georgian Villa, built in 1740 by the famous Architect Richard Castles. The estate has a fascinating Victorian Walled Garden, with one of Ireland's finest collections of rare and special plants. The naturalistic designed 18th century parkland, punctuated with Romantic Follies includes the largest in Ireland; “The Jealous Wall”. Within the welcoming Visitor Services Centre is a Licensed Restaurant and Gift Shop and there are also 3 outdoor children’s play areas, a zip line & many picnic areas on the estate.

Ideal Autumn Outing
Sep 2020
We recently revisited Belvedere House and Gardens, surely one of the most storied houses in Westmeath. Designed by Richard Castle as a fishing / hunting lodge for the"Wicked Earl", Rober Rochford. It is set in magn ificient grounds which have been enhanced by a variety of colourful owners.
Several 18th C follies survive, the largest of which is 'The Jealous Wall', built to block the view of his brother's house at nearby Tudenham!
At the moment the house is closed due to Covid restrictions but the gardens, childrens' playground, parklands, lakeside walks etc are all open.
The restored Victorian walled-garden is jaw-droppingly georgeous and full of surprises including a magical fairy garden tucked away in a corner.
Belvedere is beautiful at any time but Autumn in Belvedere is extra special with something for everyone. I would highly recomment it. The staff are very welcoming and well informed and the restaurant is excellent.

Amazing Trees
Sep 2020 • Solo
Stunning gardens at the edge of a lake. Unfortunately the house itself was closed but there is plenty to look at here. Enjoy being outdoors with a swing beside the lake, wood sculptures, a walled garden and Ireland's largest folly. I will come here every season to see the changes. Staff are very pleasant.

A beautiful old house set in magnificent parkland with an interesting history of family enmity. Lovely walks and a superb view of Lough Ennell, the House itself was closed but the parkland was worth a visit

Enjoyable walk/Trail for young children, expensive. Cafe awful
Aug 2020 • Family
It was €18 (Aug2020) for a family for 4, which is entry only. There is a small but good fairy trail, a rope swing and a zip line. 2 small play grounds and a view of the lake. The House itself was closed so really you were paying to go around a park - if it was free it would be great.

The cafe looked great but service was awful, server was utterly incompetent, didn’t know what any of the cakes were and took an age to make one coffee. The food was good but ridiculously expensive... €12.95 for a ham and cheese panini and a latte ... madness.

place seems to be way off on value for money and service

Felt ripped off
Aug 2020 • Couples
I’ve given this a three star as we felt cheated. We were staying in the nearby Bloomfield hotel and we bought our passes there.

We were told that the house was open as we wanted to see it and on arrival, but only after tendering the tickets and going through into the place did we find the house was shut and the glasshouse was shut.

There were no signs or indications that the house was shut - it’s almost dishonest. Had we known it was shut we wouldn’t have bothered.

So like many other people that day we effectively paid to walk round a park and lake when we could just as easily have walked around the lake and a nearby picnic area for free.

There is a lovely cafe and coffee bar in the grounds that merits at least 4 stars but there’s equally good cafes around that you don’t have to pay just to get in.

They also have dog kennels to leave pooch as pooches aren’t allowed in the gardens but pooches can accompany owners around the lake and a nearby picnic area outside for free.

I’d better stop writing as I dislike being ripped off and the more I think of it I’d be inclined to drop this to 2 stars.
