Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited feb 2022. Libby our guide was a fountain of knowledge and made our tour very enjoyable. Very interesting history of Nenagh and well worth visiting with free entry too. Nenagh castle across the road with great views. Eamon, Cheryl & the uninvited guest 😉 (you know who we mean Libby) can definitely recommend a visit 👍

This is definitely worth a look if you're near the town. They had great exhibits upstairs in the old prison building. The info provided by the staff was very good, concise and we learned a lot in the short amount of time we were here. They have an old shop and a classroom setup at the moment which are really cool. We visited on Friday August 14th.

This is a must for proper museum buffs like myself. The amount of stuff on display was phenomenal for a small town museum! We also enjoyed the free tour of the jail and the execution cells, very well done and interesting.

What a great hidden treasure! After we viewed the amazing historical museum, we were given a private tour of the Gate House where executions were performed! All at no cost!

This is a nice Museum located in the former County Gaol for North Tipperary. The Museum has re-created life in old Rural Ireland and you can visit the condemned cells and the execution area and the small exercise yard. There is also an art gallery with some nice paintings by local artists. It is free to visit which is great and the staff are friendly and helpful.

This is a really interesting place. My daughters were interested in all the exhibits (the classroom with the nun mannequin in particular!) and they were fascinated by the switchboard as they are only used to smartphones!
The man (apologies I didn't get his name) who did the tour in the gaol was brilliant, quick witted, really knowledgeable and explained things simply for my daughters so they could learn too. The prison cell was definitely an eye opener with all 4 of us plus the man doing the tour inside the cramped cell! I was really impressed with the heritage centre as it was free, the staff were friendly and it was a really interesting insight into life back in those days. Definitely worth a visit.

Went here today as my husband is working over here so I have time on my own in the day. Saw this on trip advisor and made my way here. So glad I did ,it's an amazing place to visit with lots of old artefacts and history. Started with the video to give me background information, then walked around exhibits.
Lady even took me for a personal tour of the geol, which is very poignant, as some inmates killed who were innocent.
Well worth a visit , there isn't even a fee which surprised me. Couldn't have been treated any better. Wonderful and thank you.

Can myself and my family visit the old school house/prison today, if so how much? & do i have to make an appointment our can i look around myself.

The entrance to the school house or heritage centre as we know it is free I do believe it is open 5 days a week, not on bank holidays I believe, adults and children are welcome and you do not need to book, the same with the castle also free but does not open Monday's, and closes from 1too2 each day for lunch, the surrounding field is pleasant to sit in and maybe have a picnic. Please note the stairs at top of castle are quite narrow and can be slippy when wet, same with stairs in the basement of the heritage centre, take care but do enjoy,
