This building in the center of Roscommon Town is a hidden gem. Not just a Museum it also is the towns Tourist Office mostly looked after by local volunteers. There is a very small charge to go into the Museum part but do it. It is full of items donated by locals going back 6,000 years, so yes do it.

Great curator. And I got to see bog butter and a real sheila-a-gig up close and personal! Wow! I really enjoyed it.

My husband and I visited Roscommon while on holiday in Co Westmeath and Co Mayo. We were parked in the square and went in for general tourist information. We saw the exhibition and decided to have a look. The man in charge walked around with us and explained the background to each piece with both factual and anecdotal information. There were lots of little funny stories which really brought it all to life. This is really an amazing place populated with articles donated by local people. The lady and man who were there were extremely informative and clearly were personally very committed to the museum. I would highly recommend this place so please pay it a visit.

This museum, housed in the Roscommon Visitors Center is small, but informative. The exhibit on native son Percy French is quite entertaining

This is an original, old fashioned yet quirky museum. Plenty of stuff to look at and very helpful staff. Enthusiasm and educational. An interesting place to visit.

€2 price tag is excellent. This is a small museum bursting with great stories and History. Take your time and read the different newspaper clippings. They have everything from a Irish mythology, the famine, an old jail door, a old sausage maker, 1980's apple , local folklore, connaught rangers and world war 1 helmets. It may not have the high-techness of a modern museum but its a place of substance and character. If your a History and story buff its a must. Lovely staff who run it.

the museum is operated by enthusiastic volunteers. if one volunteer does not know the answer, another on will. There are great photographs of life inn the 19th and early 20th century. Even up to 1950 the town had not come into the modern age.
Congratulations to the team to operate this facility.

They only have a FB web page and it listed no address.
This place is tiny. It does reside in a former Presbyterian church but from the outside you may be unsure you have the right place since the stained-glass window on the front is the star of David. We learned from Danny at the museum that the church was built by welsh craftsmen who brought that window over from Wales with them. There is an interesting mix of memorabilia here, a little bit of everything. Definitely worth checking out. Building is located adjacent from the old prison, and the former rectory, now a restaurant, is right next door.
We were here about 45 minutes.
