Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Blow away by this wonderful old pub, in the heart of Roscommon town, complete with two snugs where 'auld wans' sipped Port on market day. Clare is a great hostess.

Anyone who follows my reviews will know that I am very particular about ale. I have consumed more pints of the black stuff than I care to remember, but the pint here is outstanding, probably one of the best I have ever had.

We'd visited this place some time ago and got awful service. We were down to meet cousins back home from England who were staying at the nearby Abbey Hotel (read my review, great place) and thought we'd try JJ's for the craic, see if it had changed. No!! The same middle-aged woman behind the bar - she's the landlady leasing it apparently - walked passed us with papers in her hand and completely ignored us. Then, the same dour faced older grey haired guy we encountered before served us without saying a word of greeting! when we asked the middle aged landlady if she wouldn't mind just putting one quick race at Ascot on the TV, she replied "we only watch rugby here!" I'm not being pompous but myself and my friend are ex-Blackrock College. The landlady probably knows as much about rugby and breeding and class as the man in the moon. They always say class and breeding shines through. Certainly the case with this place: pretentious, up itself, rude and like Hyacinth Bucket! If in Roscommon, go to Murrays, JJ Cattigans, Down the Hatch, Larry's and The Brewery, There you'll get a proper, famous Rossie welcome. This place needs new management

Great selection of wines, gins, craft beers and conversation. Pub is old worldy but well run, located in Roscommon Town Centre. Always a good welcome

Throughout the world people have built 'Irish Pubs'. This one in Roscommon is the real thing, totally authentic. It really has that 19th century feel. Whats more, they actually provide the 'Irish Times' and many local papers for clients to read. If you need a snug, there are little corners where you can sit. i sat at a long table which must be very communal and sociable when the bar is fuller. There is a stove at the back.

Thanks to the lovely folk here, we had a great evening. The bar man was a brilliant lad and served us up some nice refreshing drinks. A must see pub in a great wee town. We will definitely call again on our next visit somewhere down the road. Thanks! Dave, Norm, Jenny and Carol (Carrickfergus) 👍🏽

why was our review deleted, as opposed to other reviews in Roscommon town? come on! can we not be honest?
Caitlin M
3 contributions
Hi Paul, of course you can be honest, that is exactly the point of reviews, to be helpful to others. Some of the information in your review was dishonest, we have never had a beer for €8 in our bar and our house glass of wine is €5.50, so I felt this info was inaccurate. We only open at lunchtime so I apologise if the bar was empty but we would have just opened. finally we do own the business, not the building but I'm not sure why this is relevant. I do apologise for the treatment you feel you received from us as we take the hospitality industry and providing good customer care a priority at JJ Harlows. Would you mind telling me when you visited that would be great and I can check as to how much you were charged for your drinks to clarify?

why was our original review, compared to all of our other reviews of places in Roscommon, deleted? That is outgrageous
Caitlin M

Hi Paul, I'm not sure if you want more info regarding why we contacted trip advisor. I have no issue with you reviewing any other businesses in Roscommon and would have no reason to have them deleted. The prices you stated you were charged for a beer and house glass of wine were outrageous and I can totally understand your criticism if this was correct but that information was dishonest
