We loved our tour with Mike. Some of the most interesting parts were the small details about everyday aspects of miners’ lives, which brought the place and time to life. We wouldn’t change a thing, but I’ll mention that this was the only time on our trip when we had a bit of trouble understanding what someone was saying due to accent! (We are American.) Oh, and the view from the place is wonderful. A highlight of our trip.

We really enjoyed our visit to the former mines. Our tour guide, Gerard, was a former miner and hence extremely knowledgeable about the technical side of things but also about the human stories of the many hardships and challenges the miners and their families faced. He was also very entertaining.
The tour is about forty five minutes long so it was good value for money. It would also be easily accessible for most people and there was the option of organizing a wheelchair for disabled visitors.
There is a gift shop and coffee shop with spectacular views over the mountains and the lake.

Tour Guide Gerry used to work as a miner at these mines! This made his tour even more interesting! Would recommend for any families, friends, couples, schools, etc. to visit! Historically accurate information given in a fun way!

We were reluctant to go here today as my husband didn't like how miners were treated in the UK in the 80s. However, this experience was nothing like it. This was a fantastic day for our whole family (2 small children included) it was so interesting to hear straight from an ex miners mouth all of the stories. Would definitely recommend to a friend, bring a jumper!

An interesting tour given by an ex miner with lots of info and a nice little shop and coffee shop with beautiful views over Lough Allen.
The only downside was that the tour guide was difficult to understand, even for an Irish native. Slowing down the pace may have helped.
Well worth the experience though and have great admiration for the miners.

I traveled here with two young children. 6 and 8 and my wife. We arrived a little early so took some time to wander around the exhibit, exploring the example iron lumps, tools and machines. We were then taken into the first tunnel where we were introduced to our guide. The tour was informative, interesting and engaging. Gerry our guide worked in the mines for years so he has first hand experience of how it was back in the 70s, 80's and 90's. A very friendly and approachable man, Gerry took questions with ease and went out of his way to engage the children with added facts more interesting to them and by asking them questions. This was probably one of the most authentic tours of this kind that we have been on. The tunnels were quite authentic but at the same time, they weren't too crampt.

The Arigna Mining Experience is the best guided tour I have ever been on.
The setting is spectacular and the buildings and exhibits are very nicely done. However it was our guide Gerry who made the experience so special. A former miner himself, he added good humour, personal anecdotes and a friendly demeanour to his knowledge of the Arigna story.
Inside the mine water drips randomly from the ceiling and the temperature is always around 10°C so I'd recommend bringing a light waterproof jacket regardless of the weather outside.
If you are anywhere near the area make sure to pay a visit. You won't regret it.

We had an excellent tour guide, an ex-miner, very knowledgeable and he had a great way of explaining the history of the mines. Lots of information, photograps and artefacts from the mine and the local area to be found in the visitor centre. An interesting video showing internal workings from the 1990s. Audio interviews with locals and workers about times gone by.

We have three children, 17 months, 3 and 6 year old. Realistically is this is a suitable attraction for our family age group? We are in Carrick for this week only and would like to visit.

Good Morning
we do not charge under 5 year olds as it may be above their understanding but we have lots of families who visit. you can bring your buggy on the underground tour. it is a constant 11 degrees centigrade so an extra layer of clothing is advisable.
the underground tour takes approximately 45 minutes. i hope this goes some way to answering your queries.
Is it possible to do countryside walk (approx 1 hour) with arigna mine as destination? Group of 8

Good Afternoon
it is possible to do a section of the miners way but there is quite a lot of hill walking on this walk. Walking boots would be required as it can be quite wet at times. regards Margaret
