Bespoke hiking, stargazing and cultural walking tours from the shores of blue flag beaches to the lofty Mayo Mountain heights and low impact mini-bus tours on board our "Starlight Express" for small groups. Our tours will bring you to lesser known, spectacular vistas on the Wild Atlantic Way coastline of Mayo, Sligo and Connemara, and our after-dark experiences such as a Gastronomy or Astronomy evening or Dark Sky Safaris are unique way to enjoy the evenings by enjoying the printing night skies on the Atlantic Edge of County Mayo. Our guides are qualified mountain leaders, dark sky researchers and professional drivers.

Ged picked us up in Galway in his well appointed Ford Transit van and took us on a wonderful six day 5 night tour of County Mayo. Ged has extensive knowledge of Irish history, flora and fauna, and sites of interest. From advising us on the best bars to see Irish music in Westport to giving us a detailed history of pirate Queen Grace O'Malley, Ged lead us with joy and humor. We were a group of 10 including 3 older couples who are all old friends and four of our kids who are all around 30yo. All of us were very happy with Ged's leadership skills and ability to adjust our scheduled activities when weather made it necessary.

I booked a 3 day hiking experience with Terra Firma for the Newport & Achill area. From the start there was a warm welcome & encouragement to join. The hikes were well designed with insider knowledge of the best routes for variation & the terrain conditions. Each hike had many wonderful vistas to delight the senses. Our guides Ged & Georgina were experts in pointing out the local flora & fauna which added a depth of appreciation for the natural habitats we were hiking through. Their hospitality, service, local knowledge, expertise, story telling, folklore, history & baked goodies were excellent. I would highly recommend Terra Firma & look forward to joining them again soon!

Ged is clearly experienced as a tour guide. He offers a host of options to please from those with adventurous aspirations to those seeking a more relaxed agenda. All with the temperament to easily adapt to changes in weather, or mood. The depth of his knowledge of the landscape, from the bog to the stars, of the local history, and his passion for their culture will leave you feeling proudly Irish, whether you are or not.

What an incredible day we had. Ged is an unbelievably knowledgeable guide and such a nice fella!! Great craic, lots learned, just wonderful company in beautiful surroundings. I highly recommend this business

Great day with Georgia and Ged of Terra Firma on the Hill Skills course based in Mulranny. Excellent course with good balance of theory and practice.
Relaxed practical introduction to the theory to begin, followed by practice on the hills where we got a chance to apply the theory and work on our navigation skills. Hectic weather - to say the least - but it did not interfere with our learning or fun. Follow-up with slides, references and links. Thank you Georgia and Ged.

In January, we had the pure pleasure of participating in a weekend of hiking in the west of Ireland that was organised and led by Terra Firma. Our expectations for the weekend were modest but it turned out to be an incredibly memorable two days. The hikes themselves, in the Sligo mountains, were spectacular but it was the Terra Firma element that really made the weekend for us. It was the Terra Firma guide, Ged, who charted our course through the mountains - a course that we, even as experienced hikers, would not have discovered by ourselves. Furthermore, he organised the logistics of everything so assiduously that all we had to focus on for the two days was enjoying one majestic landscape after another. Our wider group contained people who had extensive hiking experience, and no hiking experience at all, and without exception everybody that we talked to (and Ged created a very sociable dynamic) was as happy as we were with the hikes. Ged peppered his running commentary with information about the terrain, about archaeology and about history, and all the while he kept things lighthearted and humorous - he was impossibly charismatic! Three months on, we are still talking about our weekend in the Sligo mountains in January and looking forward to our next excursion with Terra Firma.

Terra Firma organised a one day Mountain Skills Course for Mayo Hillwalkers Club last Saturday. We had a very informative day firstly in the classroom and then on the hills. The gale force winds really added to the enjoyment ! A lovely mix of fun and learning! Georgia and Ged combine their expertise and knowledge and make a very good team! They are both very passionate about the beautiful environment in which they work.

We had a great time on the Dark Skies Safari, I really enjoyed it and the knowledge of Georgia and Ged made it all the more fabulous! If you have a chance, book a tour with them!

We went on a tour with Ged. It was supposed to be a birding tour with some sightseeing thrown in. We did not see a lot of birds (that being the nature of birding sometimes). It didn't matter, because it was great fun driving around and hanging out at beautiful locations with Ged. What a nice guy. I think he felt really bad about the lack of birds.
