Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A lovely park to spend a few hours in, we went on a very hot day so only did the short walk which was fairly well signposted although we did miss the access to the viewpoint over Loch Derg.
Car park is a good size and there are picnic tables available, also toilet facilities on site, there was a coffee van there but nothing else on site (at least on the day we visited), entry was free
Would visit again next time we are in the area.

I loved Portumna Forest, a really well maintained forest park with clearly marked paths and waymarked walks of varying length and plenty of info boards about the flora and fauna.
There's a free car park which you can use to visit Portumna Castle as well as this park

There are a few different length routes to follow depending on your time and fitness. There are bike trails as well as walking ones. Lovely forest walks that comes out near Lough Derg at one point. There is free parking too.

The walks in the Forest park are well laid out with interesting trees and flowers and explanatory posters to guide you as what to look for. Plenty of insect life. I met a photographer who was taking pictures of dragon flies who has published books on all sorts of insects - wonderful conversation!
All our experiences were positive until I entered the wooden building houseing the toilet facility. This was very disappointing in this covid environment - no soap in the dispenser or hand sanitiser.. The paper towel bin was overflowing. It would appear that it is not maintained on a regular basis which is a pity as the facility is very useful especially if you have travelled from some distance.

Enjoyed my visit, visited the Bird Hide to read about the White-Tailed Eagle. Lots of places to picnic and bike trails. Caterers for wheelchairs.

We're just back from here and can,t wait to return. From the moment we arrived until we left Liz and Dick made us feel so welcome. For our entire stay they went above and beyond for us with Dick even performing a magic show. The hut we stayed in was immaculate and the beds where also comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom facilities where spotless and I have to thank the staff because they've taught of everything and made our trip completely stress free. They also have bikes and Bbq's to hire which is a great idea. We had a great holiday and I would definitely recommend Podumna village to everyone. Thanks again for a brilliant holiday and will definitely be returning sometime in the near future thanks again Alan and Margaret

The forest walks are nice, especially when sunny. However, there are some utterly stupendous and magnificent views if you know where to go on a good day such as Rinmaher point. It give's the set of LoTR in New Zealand a good run for it's money! The only downside to this is a distinct lack of signage but I'm not deducting any stars for that because it's fun to find stuff and get lost, well, as lost you can now with smart phones. This is great for couples as it can be very romantic, kids as an adventure and for dogs for walks. People we met on the trail were friendly and the forest was pretty clean. You can do short walks or long walks and do it such that you can start and / or finish at Portumna castle (via Lough Derg harbour) and get some lunch / dinner at the excellent cafe there.

Walked from the harbour out to the park which was straightforward however the map of the walks was hard to follow. Signage on the tracks was very poor so we ended up asking for directions back to the start.
Another group we asked also mentioned the lack of signage and said they were just going to walk around.
Rinnmaher Point was one walk that was signposted and said to follow the white arrows. We walked out and back without seeing any arrows at all.
Well worth a visit but more effort should be put into signage, distances to travel and making the map more legible. We had just visited Killarney National Park which is well signposted and includes distances to the various spots.

Lots of trails and a great route for cycling or walks. Kids were excited looking for deer and enjoyed our cycle through the forest . Could be sign posted a bit better though

Thank you

Gates close at 7pm as far as I remember and I didn't see any sign of that changing for the summer time but I could be mistaken.
