Surprise find
Jun 2021
Super clean little beach with a few massive rocks scattered over the golden sand. Little hardcore car park and a larger grassy area connected to the beach via a boardwalk.
The sand dunes are quite well protected, with signs discouraging people from climbing up them, so that’s a plus point too.

Gorgeous beach

A few walkers, paddle boarders and swimmers. Weather wasn't great the day we were there, but a lovely place for a walk and a swim.

A chance to play on the beach and bathe in the lapping water amidst the stunning scenery.

This a very impressive beach just a few kilometers outside the fishing port of Killybegs on the south-west coast of County Donegal. The approach is by a downhill road which has great views views of Donegal Bay and the beach itself. There is one large car park which can get busy in high summer.

This beach is very popular with water sport enthusiasts and was awarded an International Blue Flag, operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education, which certifies that the beach has meet stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility standards. Overlooking the beach, on the headland, is the Fintra bay scenic spot from where you can see Mullaghmore and Benbulben mountains in County Sligo as well as North Mayo. There are parking picnic tables and a trailer selling great coffee and snacks in summer. A great place for families, with a chance to play on the beach and bathe in the lapping waves amidst the stunning scenery.

Swimming on this beautiful beach near killlybegs. The walk down to the beach is grand all downhill, coming back to your car a bit of a climb but we'll worth it.

Lucky Donegal people 🏖️
Aug 2020 • Family
I looked up the top ten beaches in Donegal so that we could visit as many as we could in our two weeks stint here and this beach was named. I can see why. However I've realised it is debatable list as there are so many beaches in Donegal. Google maps brought us to a parking lot very near holiday homes, we passed the closed Clock Tower into this estate. Others were parked here but we realised this wasn't the official car park when we got on the beach. It was free. Between the official and non-official carparks there is loads of parking here. It is a blue flag with lifeguards present. However after a full week in Donegal, I've realised that Donegal people are really spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches in their county. Some listed on TripAdvisor. Others not. Some advertised & signposted, most not. Some easy to find, most not. We have been finding that if you follow a tiny narrow windy road anywhere along the Donegal coast you will no doubt find a fabulous and highly likely unspoilt beach (Trá). Follow your nose and enjoy. To be honest, I preferred: the unsignposted Maghera strand, the unlisted Dooey, the iconic Carrickfinn & the unmarked Tramore near Rossbeg. Here's to another week of exploring this fabulous coast🌊& county.

A very secluded beach

Stopped here as I was out for a days drive , leaving Killybegs I noticed the sign post and Iam glad we called , parking is in a Carpark of the beach and on a busy day can be hectic , this beach has toilets , bin-bags , and life guards , it is so clean , and all dogs on leads is good .no cars on the beach is a plus , we will be back with the grandchildren as it was child friendly plenty of family’s , it’s got rock pools and the photos don’t do it justice , can’t wait to go back soon about 7k out of Killybegs .

Incredible Beach
Jul 2020
I could live here just based on having this beach on my doorstep. We stayed locally & availed of walks here with our 3 dogs several times a day. The expanse of the beach both at high & low tide is great. There is a lifeguard on duty, 2 portaloos, dog poo bags & bin in addition to 2 black plastic bins. There was minimal litter & only 2 incidents of dog poo in the 3 days we walked the beach.
This really is how beaches should be maintained by local authorities, local residents & visitors alike. I would rate this beach way higher than Silver Strand.
