We loved the boat ride out to the the lighthouse. Only one of only two off shore lighthouses you can visit in Ireland. The tour guide Dee gave us a unique perspective of what life was like in the old days when lighthouses were manned by a small team of professionals. The lighthouse is a real gem. I would definitely... More

This lighthouse has a 140 year history. It's a 15 minute boat ride from Ballycotton harbour. Having landed on the island, there is a steep upward climb to the lighthouse. The tour takes you around the top of the island and into the lighthouse itself. The view from the railed area at the top of the lighthouse is absolutely stunning... More

A lovely scene, we were there early that morning and the tide was out which revealed the floor of the sea and then in the afternoon it was a complete different landscape when the tide was fully out, we has a drone and flew it out to the lighthouse, which was beautiful to see rural Ireland on an island

Take the tour boat and go. Wonderful experience and well worth the $$ that will go to help preserve the lighthouse and establish a museum there. Great views.

Ballycotton fishing village is about 45 minutes drive from Cork city. Pop into Midleton Saturday farmers' market on your way, it's excellent on a fine day. Phone ahead 021 4646875 to book and confirm sailing. The boat trip takes about 15 minutes, half of which is in sheltered water and the remainder can be somewhat choppy. It's not a difficult... More

This is stunning to look at from any angle from out at sea or from any point of land from surrounding countyside. Locals started a new endevour in 2014 and now run tours to the island on a specially commissioned ferry boat. Well worth booking this is in Ballycotton..........the island is a special place a magical spot, the skippers are... More
