45 minutes from Cork city and you will be transported on an exclusive historical natural visitor experience. A charming 10-seater passenger ferry 'Yassy' and a local guide will transport you to the previously inaccessible island; up the steep grassy incline to the summit and inside the black tower and onto the lantern balcony.

Only goats live on the island.. sometimes they come and say hello!

We had a brilliant time on this tour. The guides, Derry and Eddie, were very knowledgeable and entertaining. Derry was the retired local schoolmaster so could tell us all about the area and Eddie had been a lighthouse keeper and told us what life was like for him and his family. We had lots of laughs, good views and excellent... More

Lucky to have the sun shining & decided to go on the boat tour to the lighthouse. Very enjoyable & was great to see such a lovely little island. Tour very informative & were lucky enough to be guided by someone who had worked as a lighthouse keeper. Great stories to hear about. Would recommend for all to see. You... More

Visited the lighthouse with Australian family, the boat trip out was lovely as the sun was shining. The climb to lighthouse is step but worth it for the views when you get to the helicopter landing pad and look back towards the mainland. The tour guide was very informative and we all enjoyed the visit inside the actual lighthouse. The... More

Ballycotton is a really wonderful place. The visit of the lighthouse is very interesting, as the guide is the former keeper. The view from the island is great, it it was worth paying 20e to get there!

We were on a private day tour in Cork and our tour guide recommended this. It did NOT disappoint! Jim was our boat driver and tour guide; he worked in the lighthouse most of his life and was full of great stories and anecdotes. He was a gem! The hike to the lighthouse was rather steep but he helped me... More

The visit was simply enjoyable! The weather was amazing, the guide interesting and the island full of history. I particularly loved having some anecdotes from our guide, former keeper of the lighthouse. Really something to do when you come to that lovely village of Ballycotton!

April may not seem an ideal time weather-wise to take a boat trip out to an island but we did it! It's about 10/15 minutes boat ride from the harbour. Life jackets are issued before boarding and a brief safety talk is given. The boat ride itself is brilliant - for some reason a sudden squall arises at a certain... More

A friend arranged this on short notice and we had the best day. Beautiful weather added to the pleasant short boat trip to the island which in turn offered endless views. And the biggest surprise, who knew the lighthouse was black. Even the locals believed it was a white lighthouse! The guide was very informative and entertaining and conscious of... More
