Laugarvatn Fontana is composed of a series of interconnected baths and steam rooms that complement each other to create a healthy, natural and unique spa experience.Three steam rooms, collectively called GUFAN, have been built over a natural hot spring that has been used since 1929. The temperature of the steam varies depending on the temperature of the hot spring and weather, usually between 40°C (104°F) and 50°C (122°F). Humidity is very high in the steam room cabins. Grids in the floor of the steam rooms allow guests to hear and smell the boiling natural hot spring underneath, creating a natural and totally unique experience.Next to the steam room is YLUR, a Finnish-style sauna. The temperature is between 80°C (176°F) and 90°C (194°F), with a lower humidity than the steam room having a big window facing the lake of Laugarvatn. LAUGA, SÆLA, and VISKA are interconnected outdoor mineral baths that vary in depth, size and temperature. Some areas are suitable for relaxation and others offer space for movement and playfull moments. Stone artwork made by Icelandic artist, Erla Thórarinsdóttir, enhance each visitor’s experience. VISKA, the hot tub, is built at a slightly higher level than the other baths, providing a panoramic view of the beautiful surroundings while the healthy water nourishes both body and soul.Completing the ensemble are VATNIÐ and STRÖNDIN — the lake and the beach. Visitors will reach VATNIÐ through a gate. STRÖNDIN has warm black sand, which has been shown to be beneficial for those suffering from arthritis and other joint illnesses. VATNIÐ provides an opportunity to cool down between visits to GUFAN and YLUR, a temperature shift that is both healthy and strengthening

Beautiful natural hot springs next to an unheated ( freezing cold) lake. Pools are about as hot as a bath. The steam room is basically a wooden hut with slats placed above a natural stream which happens to be boiling. The steam rising up through the floor slats creates an amazing experience. hearing the boiling water running below the floor... More

Decided to visit here as the blue lagoon was fully booked when we were visiting recently. So glad we did! Much cheaper and much less busy. There were a range of pools in which varying temperatures meant that there was something for everyone! I particularly enjoyed the 39 degree pool, although it may have been too hot for some! Pools... We had just come from snorkeling in the Silfra fissure and just stumbled upon Fontana (even after having read about it prior to our Iceland trip) and how delighted we were!!!! We were in heaven. Smaller than the Blue Lagoon but more of a spa, local spot. We loved it! Sipped a beer afterward. Even though we didn't indulge, the... More

This place is worth a visit there's good and not so good points, we went on the evening, it's a bit like an outdoor swimming baths, wasn't massively impressed but had previously being to the secret lagoon, after visiting there no where could quite top it, the steam rooms where good one was very hot, the one part is just... About $50 US dollars to take a dip, but very relaxing. Very clean and professional business. Food, drinks and coffee available if wanted outside water area. May families, couples and friends in attendance.

We were not impressed by the facility as large tourist groups are taken here and the pools are not big enough. Also the fact that people spill beer into the untreated water was very inconvenient. The restaurant and the food is nice.

If you like warm baths, this is a smaller wonderful version of the Blue Lagoon. We would definitely visit again. Our kids did the "jump in the lake" challenge, which is unique and fun.

I really liked it here. We arrived at about 11 which was before all of the Golden Circle bus trips arrived and it was lovely and quiet at this time. There are a few different pools of different temperatures, steam rooms and a sauna. There is also the option of a dip in the freezing lake. Advantages over the Blue... More

The Fontana baths outside Reykjavik were included at the end of my Golden Circle tour. I thought they were much more pleasant and friendly---and much less commercial--- than the bath experience at the Blue Lagoon. Fontana contains a series of tiled hot water pools of varying temperature, as well as a cold plunge into the sea outside. I think it... More

Me and my wife to be went here today on our Iceland tour. I must say after i saw all the good reviews i expected something nice and clean and top notch. When we arrived in the Café area it was like a huge mess, the floors was dirty etc. Then we went to the information desk and wanted to... More
