It is impressive that these structures still stand today. The concept and application behind the construction is truly and amazing feat, And to see these with the mountains as the back drop is awe inspiring.

A short walk from the main road is this small group of turf covered farm buildings, dated back to the 19th century. There is also a tiny turf-covered chapel.

With a good camera you can get a few pictures from the road. The site is right on the ring road and you can pull a short way into the driveway but there is a gate that is locked.

This held our interest and we took lots of pictures. I am pretty sure that this is the place that we were able to go inside each little dwelling. It is fascinating how people will survive. If this isn't it, it was a place in...More

When I was there (last October) there was no sign about trespassing, and there were many people there ahead and behind.

Hi, It is actually pretty straightforward to find. It is just a bit off the main road around Kalfafel. It is pretty easy to miss though... Just Google "South Iceland Nupsstadur", there you will find a short description and... More
