The entire trip around the ring road is spectacular and this area is no different. Djupivogur is no different. You can walk around a bit, have a coffee or lunch check out the buildings and in fact they moved a very old building onto a new foundation and it's impressive to see. We didn't see any seals or Puffins, but... More

Make sure to call ahead and book and if you are like us and traveling a distance, call the morning of to ensure they are going out due to sea condition. That said, we had a great time. A standout to our two weeks in Iceland. We had great up close views of puffins, seals and all types of sea... More

I knew I wanted to see some Puffins on our trip to Iceland and had read this place was great for viewing them. It did not disappoint. There are tours offered from a nearby tour that meet at 1. You get on a boat and sail to Papey Island. The ride out was lovely. The ride back was a bit... More

We stopped at Djupivogur while driving the ring road and happened to fall on this amazing guided tour. We were there on a gorgeous sunny day. The guide was very knowledgeable and helped us get very close to puffins by crawling close to them. We got amazing pictures of them. He also shared with us the fascinating story of the... More

This was such a fun bird tour. It cost $80, which was more than we had planned on paying, and consequently, all the other guests seemed to be very avid bird watchers, which we were not, but this was one of the most fun excursions we tried in Iceland. The tour guide advised that we could get good pictures of... More

Low cloud concealed Papey until we were only a few hundred metres from the island - really atmospheric. Great bird life, though most people on board were hanging out for puffins. As it turned out, we saw loads, rafted on the water, diving, in flight and then at their burrows, including many returning with beaks full of fish. Boat trip... More

This tour was an amazing experience. The boat ride to and from Papey island was rough (1 hour each way) so do not eat for a few hours before this tour. A few passengers found out why. The boat cruised around the tall rocks so we could see a few species of nesting birds and take photos. We also saw... More

We were a party of 6, and were lucky enough to find an additional family to join us - so the tour organizers were very nice and flexible enough to open an additional time slot to fit our schedule. The weather did not cooperate - it was foggy, windy, cold and raining - however this trip was totally worth it!... More

If you love the thrill of turbulent ocean water travel on a small but sufficient boat AND you love birding and natural beauty than the Papey Island Boat Tour is for you. You initially leave Djupivogur on the east coast of Iceland north of Hofn. You sign up for a spectacular and picturesque 50-minute boat ride to Papey Island and... More

Our group of 4 took the daily tour to Papey Island at the beginning of June 2015, which departed at 1pm from Djúpivogur marina. The trip involves a 45min to 1 hour boat trip, following by a guided walk lasting around 2 hours on Papey Island. The boat is relatively small and has limited seating indoors, so could be a... More
