The lake itself is a nice body of water that is worth a drive around with an occasional stop to view sections of it. The really cool stuff is a bit further afield, like Krafla and Namafjall.

A must visit when travelling in the north. Lake it self has a couple of islands and gives a great photo opportunity.

This is a desolately beautiful place to see despite the blustery weather, and well worth the drive north.
