Has a long history, with some interesting rebuilt sections following fires and collapses. Not surprising given Ribe is Denmark's second oldest City. Beware the cathedral precinct as the vehicles go all round the church and in all directions there are no road markings at all.

The church is large, located at the centre of the plaza, you won' miss it. The admission to the church is free but admission fee is required for climbing up to the roof and museum. The bird-eye view from the top is not so amazing...More

Old cathedral, birthplace of Christianity in Denmark. Buildings, tower and decorations added later. Located in the centre of ancient Ribe town.

As this wasn't too impressive nether architecture or art wise, there's other churches nearby I'd rather use my time in. I bet there's interesting stories that could be told, but we didn't get to hear this. Free entry though, so why not see for yourself?!

The modern glass paintings and mosaics behind and above the altar is the most dominant feature of this church. In my opinion Carl Hennings Pedersen expressive art don't fit very well in this traditional cathedral.

This church is certainly a focal point of a lovely town. There are some renovations going on inside but you are able to photograph around the scaffolding. The mosaics behind the alter are whimsical, colorful and wonderful.

An imposing building in the centre of a tiny cute town, Ribe is worth visiting if you are going past. And it is only an hour's drive south of Billund.

The church is huge in all dimensions and the towers can be seen from afar. The mix of red brick for the square tower and the material for the rest blends perfectly.

A cathedral, because of Ribe's status as the oldest city in Denmark. The museum on the top floor is excellent, and shows the transition from Catholicism to Lutheranism, and why the cathedral is important, with architectural models and archeological remnants. Wonderful windy views from the...More
