There is a memorial here, as well as a children's playground. Our favorite playground in the area, it still includes a mary-go-round!

I was not aware of this civil war era cemetery and have lived within twenty miles of it for over ten years. I happened upon the name (Camp Nelson) while doing some research on a civil war ancestor and discovered much to my surprise that it was located just a short distance away. It is a solemn place and very... More

Camp Nelson is a quiet little memorial on the outskirts of Cabot, just east of the city. How peaceful and quiet is it? Well, I live just a few houses away. I find it just that relaxing. On the adjacent westerly lying piece of property is a playground suitable for a picnic with swings and such for kids to play.

I had no idea about this place, nor how the civil war affected the area at all. The saddest part to me was the headstones simply list "A Soldier"... no names - leading to the realisation of so many wives and families waiting for husbands, fathers and sons to come home for the rest of their lives

I play the fiddle/violin and I go over to the site periodically and play Civil War tunes for the boys...even though they aren't up and running... I think they can hear my songs and probably enjoy hearing them. They make a wonderful audiance...none of them have complained yet. It's a good place for me to get some practice time.
