Rented bikes to travel to the lava fields. Was able to book without hassle and with short notice. Gave some supplies which was pretty good. First time riding a tandem bike... that was interesting. =P Only issue was getting verbal directions from the woman working at the bike stand... having pictures of what to look for (the tree markers on the mountain) and things to be cautious of, like "silver looking lava" (it was kinda all silver at one point...).

There are many companies to choose from to rent bikes to go see the lava, but our experience using See Hawaii Adventures was stellar. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. They gave us water for the trip and offered fresh oranges to our kids. They also provide you with a simple medical kit and flashlights. We opted to take their shuttle part of the way up before riding bikes to save us a couple of miles, and the lady who drove us was friendly and gave us so much information about the area, the lava flow, and the best way to find the lava once we started hiking. We went with our kids (ages 5 & 7) and it took us 2 hours to get to the lava, which was amazing!!! We started our trip around 3pm and we were able to see the lava in the daylight and after the sun set. Watching rivers of lava flow down the hillside was worth the effort. We hiked back in the dark, but it was actually faster than the trip out because we weren't so distracted looking at all of the different lava formations.
