Easy Hike with Nice Views

This is the rockiest trail ever. I found myself looking down 90% of the time making sure I didn't trip or lose my balance walking on the rocks. I really didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped. It's a one and done hike for me. It is challenging because of the rocks. Yes you can add it to your... More

A great and at at times moderately strenuous hike. Nice hike to get away from the usual crowds. Canyon views are wonderful.

We started our trek from the Encinosa Picnic/Day Use area and took the north Wilson Mt. Trail #123. It is a gradual uphill hike for about a mile, then turns to switchbacks. This portion of the trail I would classify as moderate/advanced due to the loose rock and some steepness. You'll come up to a beautiful mesa and eventually leads... More

Just north of Sedona on Hwy 89A, turn immediately left once you cross Midgely Bridge. This is easy to get to but unfortunately the lot is very small and difficult to find a parking space when the weather is nice. If you are lucky, head straight back past the pit toilet. The first five minutes of the hike is in... More

We are just getting into the rigor of hiking, so Wilson Canyon was a good choice for us. Parking is tight, and as with all of the trail heads in the Res Rock State Park, a day fee is required to park. UNLESS: you have an Access pass. I.e. Vet or disabled or etc. The foot traffic was light, and... More

We arrived late afternoon on Friday. The tourist information center volunteer was so helpful. She suggested several places with great views. We took this hike Saturday morning. Fabulous views!

Great views worth the hike to the top of Wilson Mountain. We took the trailhead from the north parking lot and proceeded to the top, including the Sedona lookout. The views were spectacular from the top and well worth the hike. The total hike up and back took just over 6 hours allowing time for photos and a quick lunch.... More

My family wanted to do a short hike after stuffing ourselves with Mexican and came across the Wilson Canyon Trail. As other reviewers have mentioned the hike follows a dry river bed, crossing it often, with a slight change in grade. The shade was nice as the day was hot. The trip is a quick 3 mile round trip hike... More

This was a tough and long ascent. TAKE POLES - you will need them up and down. We approached from Wilson North. Walked through tall growth forest with Autumn colors and leaves falling. Stones, pebbles, sand make the steep ascent/descent treacherous. After 2500" ascent (2 hours)...unclear at to what is the summit. Most choose to go to the left to... More

I thought it would be cool to hike a canyon since we don't have any where I live...this one was a let down. Don't get me wrong, any walk into nature is good, but this was fairly boring. You're really just following a dry river. You can go past the end of the trail up to some red rocks, but... More
