I went to the Western Spirit Museum to see their outstanding Maynard Dixon; Artist of the American West exhibit. Maynard Dixon's life was amazing and his art breathtaking. My favorite artwork was Cloud World and Shapes of Fear. Did you know Maynard Dixon determined the "eye-catching" red color for the Golden Gate Bridge? There was also an excellent exhibit of Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater's photographs. Goldwater loved not just the landscape of his native state, but also its native peoples, and photography was his way of sharing that love with the world. The most spectacular piece of art is a reverse perspective western scene named Essence of the West by Artist Wade Weber. The three-dimensional, optical illusion acrylic-on-board artwork appears to move as you move.…

We really enjoyed everything this wonderful museum had to offer. My husband gave me a 2-hour limit, but I could have stayed all day. It is a very clean, welcoming place with friendly employees and an extensive collection of everything Western and more! History lovers, this place is for YOU!!!!…

Had no idea what to expect, but learned of some really good western painters. The detail to their painting was amazing. Loved seeing pottery dating back to the 1700's and learn about the Hopi Indians. I did think it was going to be larger, but it was nice that we could get thru it in 2 hours. There was plenty of room to move around and read the plaques. The wide range of western artists really was most interesting. The small gift shop at the end had a lot to look at.…
