- ClassifiedOneProvidence, Rhode Island16 contributionsArizonians at heartMe and my husband try to visit Scottsdale every year. We're from Rhode Island so once November comes we head to Arizona for a week. Old Town Scottsdale definitely has put a Scottsdale on the map. Its safe, tons of things to do, good eats, bars and shopping. About 20 minutes from the airport.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 December 2022
- T AArvada, Colorado16 contributionsTourist trapThere's certainly some interesting gift shops and neat stores to explore. A lot of the stores carry the same tourist stuff as other stores. But just understand and expect you're going to a tourist trap. Some shop employees stand outside their shop and talk to you and try to get you to come in. This was especially true of the beauty / make up shops who also give you a little dis on your appearance and how their products can help. It was better to walk in the center of the street to avoid them.Visited December 2022Written 1 January 2023
- Gretchen Farrar-FoleyMilwaukee, Wisconsin57 contributionsA good intro to ScottsdaleThis area of shops and restaurants is a good way to start your visit to Scottsdale. Many of the shops are unique, but some are just touristy. Be sure to go into the art galleries, too. Some very interesting things to see. We stopped in at Anticus Art Gallery and saw original Dr. Seuss drawings that were really interesting. As well as met a dog named Chewy who was a Wheaten/Poodle mix. The young gallery guides were very helpful and not intimidating at all. We also found good assortments of souvenirs and trinkets it you want those.Visited January 2023Written 12 January 2023
- Lisa BAlexandria, Virginia2 contributionsNice way to kill some time...We were killing time before the NHL game we had come from DC to see (in Tempe). Old Town Scottsdale was a nice walk with some lovely galleries and a few fun shops. We had a delightful lunch (with local beers!) at Bootleggers. The people we met throughout our visit were very warm and welcoming - that was the best part.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 February 2023

They have very nice stores to shop at, galleries to view local art and restaurants or coffee shops to eat at. - MNM1011Decatur, Illinois3,081 contributionsGreat Walking Place! We love walking around Old Town and taking in the sights and sounds. Not only is there plenty of history here, but also lots of modern fun like beer trolleys and buskers. We highly recommend parking your car and just wandering and enjoying!Visited March 2023Written 5 March 2023
- Candace C2 contributionsShopping at Old Town Scottsdale, AZOld Town is fun to visit but don't shop for inexpensive trinkets to take home. If you LOVE jewelry and have a surplus of money, this is the pace to visit! The vendors are very nice and helpful. The town is spread out over several blocks so walking is required!Visited March 2023Written 10 March 2023
- CityCountryMouseOntario, Canada332 contributionsInteresting neighbourhood...Definitely worth a visit, just to see it. However: I'm no fan of cheap, made in China, "authentic" Indigenous "art", and this area is full of it. Shameful, really. Apart from that, you will find some galleries with authentic local art and decent eateries. Also one (only one?) Indigenous-owned gallery. (And do they really still call Indigenous/Native/First Nations people "Indians"?)Visited January 2023Written 22 March 2023
- secraven2023Burlington, Canada3 contributionsCome to Scottsdale!First time in Arizona and Scottsdale was our destination. Old Town Scottsdale is a series of blocks of stores and restaurants that are fun to explore. Loads of Southern souvenirs and art galleries as well. Don’t miss the iconic Sugar Bowl - great lunches and save room for the ice cream treats. We stayed at the Hyatt House which served our needs well.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 March 2023
- Sherry M3 contributionsReally Coll VibeVery touristy but filled with fun. I love the vibe in Old Town,...We always make it a priority to visit the area anytime were in town. Lots of great places to eat in the area and lots of fun bars too. You can't go wrong wherever you go!Visited March 2023Written 13 April 2023

Very tacky area with dozens of the same souvenir or crystal shops. There a few decent shops and restaurants but not enough to make this a worthwhile detour. See it if you must but no need to spend more than an hour here.

We have been coming here for years. It used to be our favorite place, but it is losing it's charm. Too many homeless. We had to chase homeless people out of our locked condo hotub. Our locked condo parking lot had homeless people sleeping in their cars. Public restrooms and restaurant restrooms were locked, which makes it hard to walk from pub to pub having a drink. If I come again, I will avoid drinking due to lack of public restrooms. The Old town trolley which was convenient for moving from one bar/restaurant/shop to another is gone. The biggest problem was restrooms and trolley are still on google and iphone maps, so I walked 5 blocks to a restroom that was locked. Going downhill fast.

Old Scottsdale is so much fun. The art galleries are beautiful. The Museum of the West is fabulous. The modern art is incredible. The movies are so interesting. The silver saddles and cowboy relics are fun to see….and the statues are quite remarkable. And then there are the restaurants which are fabulous. A day in old Scottsdale is well worth the trip!

We go every year for my wife's birthday celebration. We usually stay at the Marriott Old Town or the Valley Ho. The Marriott is a bit less expensive and actually is closer to the center of Old Town. The Valley Ho is a retro-mod hotel and good fun.
We usually park the car and walk everywhere during the weekend. We always hit the Rusty Spur Saloon. A small place, but big fun!! They most always have a solo artist playing good music and the staff is great.
We usually take in the shops and galleries during the day and typically try different restaurants each evening.
A few recommended places to see:
The Waterfront
Fashion Square
Museums
Many galleries and stores in old town
A few recommended places to eat:
Citizen Public House (upscale but reasonable)
JT Prime Kitchen (a bit small & "dark" but good food, a tad $$$$)
The Mission (good Mexican food - if outside watch out for the birds at dusk)
Bootleggers (good smokehouse, usually not too crowded. Try the shine)
Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers (typical burger & beer joint but tasty)
We tried Bourbon & Bones once and found it very overpriced and not very good. Service and atmosphere below par.
Have fun!

I would say that this is a must-visit if you're in the area. Its nice to walk around, has some good places to eat, and also has one of my favorite bars (Rusty Spur). It isn't much of an old western area IMO, other than the general aesthetic of the streets and a few of the buildings. Most of the blocks consist of more modern restaurants, boutique shops, or jewelry stores.

This place is pretty neat! Great shops and restaurants, but be prepared to spend some $$$ Lots of 'jewelry' stores and although the art and bling are seriously beautiful, it's also very expensive...

Great place to absorb the ‘old and new’ Scottsdale. Multiple galleries, jewlery stores and tasty restaurants. Take time on your next visit to stroll around.

Don't get me wrong, old town Scottsdale is still a nice place to visit. We've visited several times over the years since 2000 and can see a slow change. We feel it used to have more of the old west charm, family friendly, safe and laid back. We feel it's increasingly more upmarket art galleries, jewellery shops and more panhandlers (one of which was a bit verbally aggressive which made us move on quickly) - we understand the cost of living and social/mental/drug problems can be a cause which is also a problem here in the UK. There's still a few places holding on to the old charm like the Sugar Bowl, Mexican Imports etc. There used to be a lovely shop we couldn't now find selling native and western things at reasonable prices run by some older ladies but couldn't remember what the shop was called or exactly where it was in old town, I guess that's history like the nice ice cream parlour Cactus Cones I think it was called. Scottsdale city states that free parking is now 2 hours but it was still 3 hours as before when we went so not sure what's going on there, I hope they've dropped that idea (there was ample free parking). I do hope that Old Town Scottsdale doesn't turn like in to a little version of Hollywood with all the contradicting fakery and deprivation that comes along with that. Will be interesting to see again in a few more years time.

There is plenty to do around here. Shops on every street, and it's perfect to find tourist gifts. Great place for a photo opt.

You can rent bikes and tour around the area, or even go on a bike tour (fat bikes has a tour). Last I think there are segway tours, but not 100% positive. It is a happening place for college kids, but yours are too young for the drinking establishments.

I have a 93 years young relative visiting me here in Arizona and want her to visit Old Town Scottsdale. She cannot do too much but what are the spots she shouldn’t miss besides the ice cream parlor????

Just driving through old town is fun enough. But I would recommend stopping at Seas candy store. It’s definitely a bucket list item some of the best chocolate around. There are a couple of side streets that have the unique gift shops. My only other recommendation would be to drive through at night time when all the lights are on and everybody is out and bouncing around. Craft 64 is an awesome restaurant has wood fired pizza salads and sandwiches farm to table freshness. Unless she needs a lot of souvenirs driving through can be just as much.

If parking is limited to 3 hours what does everyone do? I'm thinking between shopping and eating we will go over the 3 hour limit.

Hi and Let me answer as a native of Scottsdale. I think parking is really nothing to worry about! Your hotel is one way or some of us natives who aren't use to the 3 hour limit is some spots...just move our car to the next place we are going. Also lots of free parking of some streets and garage by Olive and Ivy is a great place to park. Its was a bit crowed last weekend because of Spring break and Spring baseball games however we found parking with a little patients. Have Fun!!!! March and April are beautifull here in Scottsdale!
