Papago Park is a popular spot for those wanting to spend the day outdoors but not traveling outside the city. We did not go to the zoo, but the parking lot was packed. We opted to check out the Hole in the Rock since it was a fairly easy walk to the top, but it was so crowded at the top and not a lot of people wearing masks made it a bit uncomfortable in our current situation. It did also make this Indiana girl a little nervous to see people climbing higher up on sloped rocks where I thought they could easily fall off any minute. I’ve had to get used to no guardrails in Arizona! The Desert Botanical Garden was also a nice stop for people like us who have never visited the desert before.

We were in the area and grabbed a to-go lunch and thought this would be a great place to check out over lunch. All of the picnic tables were closed due to covid, but we had fun anyway - eating out of the back of our car and taking a walk around one of the pathways. It seemed like there was a lot more to do...for those who are into hiking, but for me - this was enough and enjoyable.

Little crowded but plenty of space for all. Great scenic vista on top of the rock with easy access to the top. Plenty of free parking.

We went to the zoo and then wanted to have a picnic here. It was beautiful and the weather was really nice. But despite the picnic tables being very far away from each other you couldn’t use any of them. It was very disappointing. We had to sit on the gravel to make lunch. Seemed a little ridiculous.

This is a crowded park in the Phoenix area. Hiking is better elsewhere but we climbed hole in the rock. It was very busy with lots of young adults.
