To be honest, i had no idea who this was. But it was nice to see. Had time to kill before going to the airport. There is a path next to the house that should lead to the botanical garden, not sure i got there. Signs were messed up. I did find a small waterfall and a nursery, a ton... More

You wouldn't expect to visit a Scottish author's home on an island in the Pacific. It's a bit different to anything else in Samoa. The price is high by Samoan standards but not expensive compared to most countries. Our tour guide was very kind and knowledgeable. Doesn't take long to go through but is a lovely place to visit.

It is expensive WST20 per person and takes approximately 15 minutes to walk through the house. You cannot browse on your own and are taken by a tour guide. I had difficulty understanding our guide as he did not speak very clearly. The gardens and surroundings are beautiful but a bit pricey.

I would put it down as a must see while in Apia just for the architecture and the incredibly well maintained lawns and gardens. Tour guides are very knowledgeable with an answer for every question

His 2 storey house is in a beautiful location in the mountains surrounded by gorgeous gardens. He only spent the last 4 years of his life in Samoa but he made a huge impact on the Samoan people. The female guide at the Museum brought to life his time here with great love & passion. Interesting history of the house... More

Gorgeous gardens. Massive estate. Well preserved. It's a must see if you really loved his "Requiem" and Treasure Island. Samoans love him and he loved them.

What makes holidays in countries other than our own interesting, is the connection to past treasures. Robert Lewis Stevenson's novel "Treasure Island" in my youth, and to find out on this visit that Mr. Stevenson spent his last years in Samoa, his house at Vailima is a museum, and he was given a funeral ceremony almost like a royal, such...
